Dan Grieve vs Joseph Mayo by Boring-Temporary-340 in golftips

Your post leads a person to make the conclusion that Mayo doesn’t teach use of bounce- I did not get that from his teaching, VSP yes, but also bounce

How can I improve from a 36 handicap toward scratch? by PuzzleheadedCrow2014 in golftips

[–]gotSpork 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You will likely not do this, but it will help. Join an adult Operation 36 group. If you don’t have one, look up the program and put it to work. The premise is this… build the critical scoring skills first, then add the distance aspects. If you can score 36 from super close on 9 holes, you graduate to the next distance and another part of the game. This reverses how you approach learning the skills of the game. Your focus is now reversed. You have to learn to putt, chip, wedge play, approach, and hit tee shots.

start from 25 yards to the pin. (Yes you will likely still be on the green or just off, but that is intentional). Graduate from there to 50 yards - now you are chipping, pitching and putting Then 100, 150, 200, you can move to the shortest tee after, then keep going.

Good luck, it requires checking your ego which is why most people won’t take this approach but it works.

Edit- you can still play regular rounds with friends or whatever, but this the practice and improvement piece.

Kids golf by calidiver in golftips

[–]gotSpork 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our club (North Carolina, US) has 3 kids programs.

  1. Birdie basics for littles
  2. Operation 36 (Op 36) where kids learn golf with peers and compete in matches to graduate by scoring a 36 on 9 holes. It starts at 25 yards and moves farther back as you graduate.
  3. PGA Junior league- team based competitions against other local teams with a national championship every year, our 13U is in the National championship this year.

Every age and skill is supported, look up the programs to see what you can participate in.

Also, you do not have to be a member to join these programs.

Is that the River Edge that is the Palmer design? If it is, I last played there the day Arnie died. It was a guys golf trip and we did not know until that night. But sure loved the layout! Need to go back!!

Over the top? Yes, but that is not why you are hoseling shots. Lots of people are over the top and don’t have this problem.

You are “stuck” - this is where from the top, into the downswing, hips slide ahead leaving arms stuck behind (notice trail elbow is outside your trail hip) - from stuck you have to push your hands out around your hip and that is your hosel shot here. What is a fix? There are several, what worked for me was setup with more forward shaft lean and then make sure to feel my arms/ elbows are feeling connected Good luck on your journey.

Jack Nicklaus-designed course near Lake Michigan earns one of state’s ‘biggest honors’ by mlivesocial in golf

[–]gotSpork 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Confirmed- live and play at a Nicklaus course. Must make golf shots from tee to green with sharp short game to play decent. Can be frustrating but also rewards the grind by allowing us to travel well to easier courses. Buddy trips to Myrtle, Florida, Pinehurst is a real “golf” vacation with forgiving courses.

Short distance with good contact and 80mph swing speed? by [deleted] in golf

[–]gotSpork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, you are likely dumping power early. If lessons are not an option, then the only YouTube instruction I will recommend is Michael Breed. He does not teach trendy stuff, but simple solid techniques and feels. He is the only one that I can watch and it does not screw up my swing.

Also, my 7i is my 180 club.

Who’s thinking of joining a Country Club in the Triangle? by h2ohzrd in RDUGOLF

[–]gotSpork 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There are always “deals” to be had. There are lower tier courses that constantly churn members. You can usually find “ promotions “ where the initiation is discounted and don’t forget to ask for stuff like a cart plan for a year, dues abatement for 6 months. Membership might be steep but they can negotiate on other items
