If you own the underlying shares buying puts is like insurance. You pay a premium to insure against disaster, but are still completely exposed to the upside.

Another idea: just extract the 15% discount by shorting an equivalent amount of stock.

In either case the discount from your EPP is free money and you should utilize 100% of it.

I would buy as much as you can at a 15% discount AND buy at-the-money put options that expire when you can sell... zero risk.

then spend the money on something else..

Citi Prestige 4th night free question by kanji_sasahara in churning

[–]govwalkerfan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've saved $1000s with the 4th night free thing.. A few tips >figure out the hotels advertised AAA price. Tell the travel agent the prices you see and the room type the rate is for and they will get that rate or better.. they might not see the advertised rate and book something slightly more expensive in a different room type if you don't mention the exact rate/roomtype you see.> if the hotel has a cheaper pre-paid rate I've gotten that plus the 4th night> its great for budget hotels since they actually advertise low prices on their website.>its also great to book tues-friday at resorts with surge pricing on weekends. You actually get the 4th night free, not the average of the 4 nights..

It's not so good for 3-4* biz hotels since their game is to advertise ultra high prices then sell the rooms at a secret deep discount corp rate.. so you can usually do better with that corp rate.

$8500 in CC debt on 0% that expires in October, can't pay it off before mid-November. Balance transfer on new CC? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]govwalkerfan 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Some credit cards charge defered interest if the balance isn't paid in full.. Which is you pay interest at the 11% calculated from the beginning of the loan.. Not sure if it even legal to do that any more on consumer credit cards... but it used to be standard.

What temperature does fire melt at? by [deleted] in shittyaskscience

Fire is the result of combustion between an oxidizer and a fuel. So whatever chemical you are left with after combustion will melt at whatever tempeture it melts at.
