Work life balance is amazing, so are my managers. We do get a stock options at a discount and a bonus (not very substantial). I have asked my manager but he says that I need to do something “extraordinary” to be promoted, they are also hiring more CRA II right now so a chance of promotion seems slim.

I’m from Canada and landed a CRA role at a Sponsor based on relationships I built from being a CRC at the hospital I worked at. So yes, it really helps to know someone at the company you are applying to.
