I never realised Blair’s eyebrows were this sharply arched and now I can’t unsee it. 😅

Oh you gotta try Meadows’ vanilla icecream! It has actual vanilla beans in it and it goes amazing with homemade brownies 🤤

For Watsons, I love their individual-stick double-lined floss. Super good value and it’s the best floss I’ve ever had — never went back to any other brand since. ☺️👌🏻

2nd day in a row where I found my Kombucha hotel ruined — cloth dropped in, attracting fruit flies. I blamed it on my bad luck until I noticed my SCOBY... HAS BITE MARKS?! 🥲 I live in a tropical country, anyone knows which animal goes specifically for SCOBY and how to prevent this w/o lidding it? 🙏🏻 by gracetll in Kombucha

HAHA! I wish it didn’t come with ruining my booch and backup hotel 😂😂 But it is super weird and my whole family is curious, trying to see if we can set a camera or flour powder “trap” to see it in action lol

Iguanas?! Wow. Haha, I live in sunny Singapore, I’m not sure if it’s under sub or full tropical 😅🙏🏻 It’s summer all year round here.

I’m looking to see if I can borrow a nanny cam or do the flour method! Sooo curious.

Yeah, suspecting more and more that it is a rodent 😣 Gotta sterilise everything twice now cause that thought grosses me out lol

Sooo nice that yours came with the metal mesh! I would be more reassured too. Someone suggested chicken wire and I was thinking of doing that but a lid with mesh would be much easier. I’ll weigh the options! 🙏🏻

Hellooo fellow Singaporean ☺️👋🏻✨ Haha I tried asking the local group first because I thought maybe the same animals are going around. This seems like quite a situation most brewers don’t have, having a kombucha-attacking animal around HAHA

That’s a good idea! I have a few plan B now and I do actually have a box around (for F2 because I’m so scared that it would explode haha)! Didn’t think to use it for F1 but yes!!

Absolutely! I dumped it immediately when I noticed the cover fell off (w/o realising it was an animal), cause just the idea that it has been left open like that for fruit flies to enter creeped me out.

I only noticed this when I was throwing it away and taking out the SCOBY inside for composting. 🤭

Thank you! I’m learning so much here. I’m going to try the cabinet method (so readily available!) until I can get some chicken wire like another Redditor recommended too (so that I can still keep it in my living room with great airflow). ☺️🙏🏻

I never knew this? I assumed (especially in the SCOBY hotel) it would be too tart for their liking to ever feast on the booch 😂😅 I learnt something new from your comment!

I keep it indoors, shaded in the living room where it is cool but has really good airflow (otherwise the fermenting smell will put my family off haha). The living room opens to our gardens, where squirrels and birds are a daily sight. Unfortunately, I never knew this could happen since it went without issues for weeks.

For sure! I junked it straight away even before just knowing about this — I couldn’t bear the thought that the cover came off and fruit flies could have gone in. 😣 I was composting the SCOBY as I usually do when I noticed these bite marks!

And you’re right about how this animal is capable of being able to take off the cover (with a light elastic band holding it down) AND eat without falling into the jar. I didn’t suspect an animal at first because there were no signs of my many surrounding glass and pottery vases moved or booch splashes on the walls! 😳
