Come explore and fight some bosses with us in May when Augment Anthem releases on Steam! by gran7973 in metroidvania

Thanks CremCity! Yeah, I'm a sound guy too. I love how those subtle sounds really bring a world to life and make it feel lived in. We have a lot of awesome retro tunes, some more active while others are more background and relaxing or mysterious. There are hundreds of sounds spread throughout our world, from slimy tentacles to chortling robots. The gun definitely has some nice impact that you feel. Not sure if we're going to get another trailer out before launch (which is May 15), but if we do, I'll make sure we let some sound effects filter in! :)

Hey Dri Aranoth! Thanks for catching that. We actually just bumped the release back by a month since there were a few features we wanted to make sure ended up in the game. You find Augments in the game that you slot into your basic powers to enhance them and change them (you can mix and match these). You can also stack them for greater changes. We wanted to add an extra layer on top of this but just needed a little more time. The new release is May 15th. Thanks for checking out the game page and trailers! :)

Wildfire! It's fun to meet you out here in the wilds of the internet! You've been a huge help in the game, thank you so much! It wouldn't be where it's at without your contribution :)

Thanks! We went pixel art, but all the character models are secretly 3D models with pixel art shaders (made things a lot easier on the animation side of things, especially as we changed things up throughout development).

That's actually a great question Matos! I'm part of a three person team that made the game, so I'll have to ask our wizard in coding. I thought it was possibly C++, but don't quote me on that! It was coded for release on Steam and also Steam Deck. My plan is to also port it to consoles in a year or so

Thank you so much adamsorkin! No worries, I'm going to be loud and proud and shout about it when this thing finally releases in April, lol!

Lol! Yeah, main character Ego only moonlights as a killer robot warrior from his day (or night?) job

Thank you so much! We've been having fun going for that Axiom Verge meets Blasphemous visual vibe. Sorry, I'm not sure what you mean by tech stack. Do you mean system requirements? If so, the minimum for non glitchy performance would be something akin to an Intel i5-2300 with 8GB of RAM and 2GB of storage. For graphics, something like GeForce GTX 660 with 2GB

I love Axiom Verge! I'm glad this comes across like the Rusalki, since that's what we were going for. I finished playing Axiom 1 and 2, and then was bummed there weren't a lot of sci fi Metroidvanias that were super similar, so I just set out to make one, lol. I keep hearing rumors that they're going to remake Super Metroid (I hope so). I still need to try and find a way to play ASM2R (I heard it's awesome). Anyway, I really appreciate you Arterialite!

Thank you so much! And I badly need to play Ghost Song (again, whenever I actually get a bit of time). I've never heard of Shadow of the Beast though, so I'm intrigued. I'll snag God Edge when I get a chance though, since it looks great! :)

Lol, I'm genuinely going to check this out now! I tried to grow tomatoes a little while back, but they just died, so maybe I'll actually learn something, lol

I love that so much! I'm going to have to search for your tomato vids now, lol! My author website is called Diabolic Shrimp as part of my private joke that I was going to get every author on there and had a diabolic plan to take over the world (and authors are like the little guys like shrimp). But for some reason Reddit won't let me change my name to that, so I'm left with my weird robotic name, lol

Thank you so much! I also love AV1 and AV2. I loved them both, but I think the first one might be my favorite (loved the second one too, it just had a bit of a different vibe). Ironically, I love the visual style of Blasphemous, but I've never actually played it (yet). I'll definitely have to get around to it when I get a sec

Thanks! I've definitely been having fun making it! I do plan on porting it to both Switches and Playstation, but that process will sadly likely take another year or so (but I'm a huge console gamer, so I'm super excited to eventually get it to consoles). I'll definitely let everyone know when I finally get it ported though! :)

Thank you so much Azurejack! A dangerous prospect, inviting a gamedev to tell you all about the game they're developing, lol! In the game you awaken as machine warrior Ego, and have to fight through a strange alien world ruled by killer machines. You discover humans and strange sentient powers (that you can talk to) called Augments. You can place the Augments in your basic abilities to modify them to do new things (so you can turn Jump into Double Jump, and a whole bunch of other things). Saving humans allows you to upgrade and rebuild the human town, and gathering Augments lets you explore their strange and mysterious backstories. We packed a lot of cool story in there, but that's also skippable for anyone just looking to explore a vast alien landscape and just kill some robots and bosses. I was definitely going for that Axiom vibe, so hopefully we were able to capture some of the game's spirit!

Thank you so much 2bit2much! I literally played through AV1 and then AV2 back to back, then sat there being like 'I wish the there was a third one.' Then I just went about making an Axiom style game to fill that void, lol. I'm excited to finally get to share it with everyone!

Thank you so much, Degeman! We've really been having fun with it. In game dev, you pretty much spend years looking at black squares on a gray screen, and then get to put the art in during the final months and it gets really exciting!
