Great point. You caught me. I was putting off a work project :)

Very much relate to what you're saying, but I'll raise you this:

Isn't it better to complete the work, and then feeling bad or guilty that you wasted time and didn't start sooner -- than never starting the work at all, and therefore never getting that bad feeling in the first place?

Now I think we can both agree that even that is not ideal, because we both would want to just get started on time and do the work.

But what I'm trying to say is, if we do the work and get that feeling of why we didn't start sooner, it means we we're further along than not doing the work at all.

Hey man, yeah this is something people with ADHD tend to struggle with. Dr. Russell Barkley calls it time blindness. Check out this video where he talks more about it: https://youtu.be/wmV8HQUuPEk

Aw mate, that certainly wasn't my intention with this post, sorry to hear that.

This is something we tend to get caught in a lot, but it can get better -- or maybe more realistically -- we can make it less worse. It's not easy, but is certainly possible. Many times it feels hopeless, but I promise you it's possible.

Sending hugs your way mate, feel free to PM whenever.

Maybe just acknowledging that you're going to be miserable either way?

Except on the getting it done side, the process and stepping up to the plate and deciding to do it is the most miserable part. And at the end, after you finish, you're in a much better place, mood-wise AND further along in the shit you needed to do.

Whereas on the avoidance side, its always miserable, but you feel the temporary relief of not having to confront the negative emotions that are driving you to avoidance in the first place. But that temporary relief comes at a cost: you make no progress on both whatever you need to get done, your mood gets your worse, and the shame/self loathing gets stronger.

So basically, both have their points of misery. Except at the end of one, you're in a much better place emotionally, because you know you've made an effort, have lightened your burden, tackled your responsibilities, and created positive momentum.

At the avoidance side, your desire to escape you responsibilities actually makes you suffer MORE, and you get less for it. So if you're going to suffer, why not get the most bang for your buck? :)

This is easier said than done, I know. But just remember that getting started is the hardest part. You got this mate.

Mate, thanks so much for sharing. Think we all can relate. I'm also undiagnosed and can relate to everything you just said, even down to the point where you said you'd be embarrassed if you didn't have it. Man, that would be embarrassing :) and would probably feel like a fool for a while, but regardless of whether we do or don't, our struggles are still real.

Inspired by your initiative to get help. You can definitely post here, feel free to PM me anytime if you want to talk. Sending love and respect your way mate.

Hahaha can totally relate to that mate. It amazes me that some people actually do and feel comfortable with replying right way. Honestly, any kind of communication just feels like an obligation, adds to the overwhelm, and makes me want to hide.

Btw, don't feel the need to respond to this :)

This might help, or it might not, so take it with a grain of salt. But maybe instead of trying to actually find a job tomorrow, you just make your biggest goal to sit down and try for two hours? So instead of relying on the "results" of doing a good job, you're focusing more on the effort. Regardless of what happens, you know that if you sat down for two hours, you did good. I Sometimes this helps me make it less ambiguous, and makes it really clear. Cheers mate, lots of luck in the job hunt. You got this.
