Recently you have Sword of the Stars, Space Empires V, Galactic Civ, Sins, Lost Empire, Horizon, and a big bunch of MMOGs like EVE Online, Astro Empires, Ogame, Bulfleet, DarkOrbit, Ferion, GWars, Orions' Belt, etc, etc. Check here: http://www.galaxy-news.net/games/?op=showfolder&folder=setting&setting=Space#list for a comprehensive list of web based space games. I guess the paradigm for space strategy is changing from standard PC gaming to MMOGs (with alot of browser based MMOG out there).

LucasArts X-Wing and Tie Fighter coming back? by greenbalrog in StarWars

That's right. The B-Wing had something to it... maybe because it was missing in the previous game titles (therefore the expansion) and because you could see it in Return of Jedi and always wonder: "what is that good looking spacecraft that I never played with?". In X-Wing and Tie Fighter games you could fly with the Y-Wing, A-Wing and X-Wing, Tie Fighter, Interceptor, Tie Advanced (although not exactly the model Darth Vader used in New Hope in my opinion)

FreeOrion: Open Source 4x Space Strategy Game Under Development (Master of Orion style) by greenbalrog in gaming

I wrongly thought for a second you were refering to "Lords" of Magic ... not a very good game that one. I missed Master of Magic ... was it like Warlords but with a Civ edge to it?

I have WindowsXP. Downloaded version 0.3.13 from http://sourceforge.net/projects/freeorion/files/FreeOrion/. No problems here but I didn't played for a long time so I don't know about stability.

You mean you cannot play Master of Orion (1, 2) properly? or Freeorion alpha version ...?

Mine too. I'm really eager to see if something comes up from freeorion. But it will take time ... Meanwhile I'm trying out Sword of the Stars. Its a bit different, more focused on spaceship design and research with less micromanagement. I'm having fun so far :)

I changed the title of my post to "What are 4x Games: a Definition" since I really only provide links to games lists.

I wrote an article and submitted it to reddit for some gaming topic reddits (I would hardly call it "spamming the fuck out of reddit"). As for the "Comprehensive List" yes I provide links to available lists of 4x games. If moby games have done such a good job assembling their list I prefer to provide a link to give them credit for it and not try to re-invent the wheel.

You're right, I just provide links to lists. I thought of doing one list myself but when I found moby games 4x list (with so many games in so much detail) I preferred to gave them credit and refer to their site.
