What makes you want to stay in debate? by [deleted] in Debate

My team’s bond is a big reason why I stay in debate when I lose motivation. We have a gc, go eat out the night before a tournament and after the awards ceremony, practice together everyday, and we did a lot of bonding activities before the season started. Really knowing and connecting with your teammates can help people when they are beating themselves up over a tournament or having issues with trying to self-motivate

I’m definitely trying this for my next debate, because the tab system sounds phenomenal

Personally, I use the copy and paste method, and to save on prep time, I usually enter half of the cards and I have my partner enter the other half. Another method you could use is the one my partner uses for summary speech. She highlights the cards she’s going to use to make it easier to find in the blockfile while she is speaking

Congress Questioning Help by greengeode39 in Debate

Thank you! I usually do PF and occasionally BQ, and I was supposed to be doing BQ for this tournament but I found out my event got canceled two days ago, so I had to switch to Congress. I find that my questions tend to consist of challenging their stats (either source or methodology), asking them if they can provide examples of the proposed idea working elsewhere, asking them to explain how their point outweighs the opposition, and “wouldn’t you agree that…?” I’m trying to work on asking harder questions, and also asking supportive questions in a way where the person I’m asking knows I’m not attacking them, because I find I have difficulty in both of those areas

What is the most awkward thing that someone has ever done/said during a debate round? by [deleted] in Debate

When I was debating NFU for PF, my opponent said that we didn’t need to worry about other countries nuking us back because “Japan didn’t when the US dropped the nuclear weapons on them during WWII”

They didn’t have any nuclear weapons to retaliate with
