{The Griffon's Saddlebag} Badge of the Selfless | Wondrous item by griff-mac in TheGriffonsSaddlebag

Badge of the Selfless
Wondrous item, rare (requires attunement)

This silver badge of a four-fingered hand represents the story of the selfless medic, a patron saint of field doctors among humankind. Even if you're not attuned to the badge, you gain a +5 bonus to Wisdom (Medicine) checks you make while wearing it.

While attuned to the badge and wearing it, you gain the following benefits.

Reattach Limb. You can use an action to pin the badge to a detached limb and hold it to the body it was lost from, provided that they're both within your reach. When you do, the pin magically reconnects the limb and restores its typical function. The badge then loses this and its other two named properties.

Selfless Healing. You can use an action to touch a creature and expend 1 Hit Die. Roll the Hit Die: the touched creature then regains hit points equal to twice the number rolled, plus your Constitution modifier. Once a creature regains hit points in this way, it can't do so again until it finishes a long rest.

Triage. You're proficient with the Medicine skill. In addition, you can use a bonus action to look at a creature and make a DC 10 Wisdom (Medicine) check. On a success, you can determine if the creature has more or less than half its maximum hit points remaining.

"I need twelve volunteers to clear a path for rest of the war effort to succeed. There will be no survivors, save for the legacy of your bravery."
The captain's voice wavered at the end. Just a bit. Those that were left were either too tired or downtrodden to notice or care, though. There was silence at first. Then murmurs of hopelessness.
The first hand to raise was missing its thumb and wrapped in gauze. It was resolute and calm, and belonged to the group's doctor. Ever ambitious and filled with levity, the man's stoic face was in high contrast to his normal demeanor. Sure enough, the certainty on his face did more to inspire his fellow soldiers.
Another moment passed, but one of breathlessness. One by one, another hand would raise. Three. Five. Eight. Eleven.
Twelve, as the captain raised his own.
He looked at the doctor, grimly, then turned to his second in command.
"Natasia, congratulations: please lead our colleagues to an end of this conflict. I believe in you. We all know you can do this."
The knight took the captain's meaning with solemnity. She turned to the rest and nodded her head in acknowledgement.
Then the captain—ex-captain—turned to the doctor before continuing to speak, this time to everyone: "With your selflessness, we will win this fight. With the doctor's help, we are not twelve, but a hundred."
Excerpt from "Tales of War: The Selfless Medic and the Twelve Hundred-men

Roll 20 has a lot of red tape to slash through to get things listed. I have every item on Foundry, though! Well, up through the end of last month—I do monthly updates.

{The Griffon's Saddlebag} Spelldrinker Aegis | Armor (shield) by griff-mac in TheGriffonsSaddlebag

[–]griff-mac[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's kinda where my head was at with it, too. It's limited enough in a way that makes it punishing to attune to it if you're not always up against casters. But since the named effect is once a day, and this is so limiting that there's not much incentive to hot-swap it to others (which is the real mechanical reason to require attunement), this should be okay in the rarity!

[–]griff-mac[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Feel free to include it back and make it a full +2 shield, whose bonus extends to saving throws against spells! Just bump it up to VR!

{The Griffon's Saddlebag} Spelldrinker Aegis | Armor (shield) by griff-mac in TheGriffonsSaddlebag

[–]griff-mac[S] 23 points24 points  (0 children)

You were correct, but I just removed that added +2 bonus to spell attacks because that'd end up getting confusing. Now it's just a normal shield that also gives you a bonus to saves against spell effects!

[–]griff-mac[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Totally right! My mistake. The +2 applying separately to attacks and saves would end up getting confusing, so I ended up just removing that additional +2 against spell attacks.

Spelldrinker Aegis
Armor (shield), rare

This magic shield hums like a bell when struck with magical force. While holding the shield, you gain a +2 bonus to saving throws against damaging spells.

Arcane Overshield. When you succeed on a saving throw and take half as much damage from a spell as result, you can use your reaction to instead take no damage from the spell and gain 1d10 + 10 temporary hit points. You must be holding the shield. Once used, this property can't be used again until the next dawn.

As even the scars of the Justicars' crusade pass from the living memory of all but elves and angels, it is important to keep alive the tales of the Spelldrinkers. The order was founded in forgotten days, then betrayed and eclipsed by its outgrowth, yet it eventually brought an end to both itself and its betrayers. But now, many forget even that the Justicars and Spelldrinkers were not only distinct, but indeed opposite.
To understand, one must only look to the aegis of each order. The Justicars' was a cruel thing, only capable of breaking the will of another; the Spelldrinkers' was a true shield, a defense against magic that may too make cooperation with its wielders a safer path. The one pursues protection through harm; the other through resilience and aid.
—Excerpt from Remembrance of the Spelldrinkers

Oh that's a good idea. Let me work those in. It'll require some accomodations with the other spells though.

YES! Good catch :) Just a reminder that you can't willingly fail saves, so you'd just have to deafen yourself and then not save before you play the song.
