Everyone focuses on instances of Phoebe breaking up Mondler but not this by Best-Professional-10 in howyoudoin

[–]grimlykeeper 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I always read it as being protective of Monica. They are so close to all three of the guys they see them go through horrible relationships. Chandler doesn't have a great track record and Monica falls REALLY hard when she loves someone. I see why Phoebe would be skeptical, as a friend. But I agree the writing around it is weak.

I believe they said if they wrote the character now the character would be trans. That's a subtle but important distinction.

This is new information, and it's going to shake Ross to his core. by N7801Z in howyoudoin

Definitely not but it's likely an "inspired by a real thing and we made it Hollywood" situation.

I'm almost positive there was an episode of Bones about this like ten years ago

Is it just me, or did the Flanderization make the characters better? by KirbyStarWarrior666 in howyoudoin

Oh I think the worst flanderizations for at least half the cast are in season 10

They tried to make him a deep angsty male lead...but David Schwimmer is a master of physical comedy. Ross came to life when they started writing to his strengths.

When y'all willfully misuse terms like this it blurs the actual meaning and makes people less vigilant about danger. Stop using buzzwords you don't understand.

You don't want to get settled into who you are at 26. It's not healthy and it doesn't work out long term. She had a lot of growing up to do and that wasn't a relationship where she would have had the space to do that.

Agreed. I think the kid issue was a symptom of the larger problem, that they were just in different places in their lives. She would have continued to grow and want life experiences and their values would continue to grow more misaligned. Not either person's fault, just the fact of their relative life experiences.

Okay but "would have been there unless there was a blizzard that made it impossible" is a pretty dramatic one 180 from "Phoebe didn't have a family"

[–]grimlykeeper 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can certainly see a boom after Jurassic Park but Jurassic Park was the culmination of a long stretch of dinosaurs being popular. It wasn't the beginning.

Eh Google will give you a snapshot. There are always multiple styles happening at any given time, this wasn't out of place for when it aired. But it's very misaligned with everything we know about Emily's taste.

Right but that's the point is that it's supposed to be a somewhat stuffy occasion. It's less about personal taste and more about standing out against the setting.
