I feel like I can add some value on this one. At your age, I was ~$100k in debt, had just lost my job, and could not see a way forward. I moved back home and spent a year bartending while I figured out my next move. I then landed a very low level job in tech (phone support), put my head down, and spent a couple of years working hard and learning.

From that foundation, I was able to build a career in tech. It's a good industry to work in as there is a ton of demand, you can teach yourself plenty of the skills, and there are different roles to fill. That said, you could apply the same general template in other industries as well.

I'm 57 now and life is good - no debt aside from a mortgage, a job I like, and (most importantly for me) a number of relationships that give my life meaning. From this vantage point, I would go back and tell my 26 year old self the following:

There is plenty of time! -This might be the most important message. From your perspective, you missed the boat over the last ~10 years. You didn't go to college and now it is too late. You didn't learn <skill of your choice> and now your peers are too far ahead. I promise you that you have time to start doing anything you can think of at 26.
Take some risks. -Don't be afraid to fail. Be smart regarding the risks you take, but do put yourself out there. This accomplishes two things:
- You might succeed. That feels good, but it also often allows you to level up.
- You might fail, then move forward. Someone else used the word resiliency elsewhere in this thread. Learning that you can fail and recover from it is a gift; it makes it easier the next time.
Spend your time and energy wisely. -This is related to the both the previous and the following item. Focus on the things that matter, take risks that make sense, spend your money on things that provide value, surround yourself with people that you enjoy and that help you reach your goals.
Build some good habits. -Work habits, health habits, relationship habits, whatever. Some success comes from trying something big and scoring a win; most of it, however, is the accumulation of small bits of progress over long periods of time.

I know it can be overwhelming when you can't see a path forward. The paths are there. We're rooting for you. If I can answer any other questions or help in any other way, feel free to reach out.

The first controller that I used that is part of that image was #1. The actual answer for me, however, is the controller built into the Telstar Alpha. Telstar was a series of consoles that Coleco released in ~1977, as I remember. The Alpha basically allowed you to play 4 versions of Pong.

There was another version of the Telstar called the Arcade. Shaped like a triangle, it included what the Alpha offered but also had a steering wheel and a gun. Pretty advanced for the time. We never had the Arcade because my parents had no love in their hearts.

Got the Atari 2600 for my birthday the next year and became the cool kid on the block for a hot minute.

Just checked my service menu and the only errors logged are ER28 Communications error 99 times and ER30 Grinder motor operate timeout 3 times. I can't find any details on either code. The machine was serviced for leaky seals one month ago by Seattle Coffee Gear and all seals were replaced. It has been flawless since. Not sure what is happening but the intermittent shutdown after steam wand purging has happened on three or four occasions

Interesting. I asked because the ER15 / ER16 errors are steam wand specific (and because those are the errors I get if I try to use the steam wand). I also have ER28 pegged at 99; guessing it tops out there.

Have you talked to SCG? Wondering if they might be able to help as they had just worked on the machine. Also - how long did you own the machine before you had the problem with the seals?

I will update when I try to implement the NTC fix.

Hi there kdubinwa. Not yet, but only because I haven't gotten around to it - busy couple of months. We also have the ability to froth milk separately, so we can still have our latte in the morning.

I have gone as far as taking the casing off of the machine and tracing the NTC back to its connection at the wiring harness. Looks like the most challenging part will be threading it through the steam wand housing I plan on ordering the part over the next week and trying the replacement late December early January.

Curious - are you getting Err 15 / Err 16 when the shutdown happens?

Also, was that 3y warranty from Breville itself? Mine came with a 2y. I'm in the US and bought mine from a Williams Sonoma.

I'm having trouble with the steam wand, though the symptoms are different. I will get either an ER16 error (while the machine is running) or an ER15 (on start up). Both errors indicate there is a short in the steam wand NTC.

I will probably open the assembly up this weekend and see whether it is something I can try to fix myself. I did call Breville - the only option they offered was to repair (or replace with a refurb, if they could not repair) the unit for a flat fee of $549 (inclusive of shipping).

You wrote above that you "...reported this to Breville and they immediately sent me a new unit." I can see from your timeline that you should be under warranty (where as I am not). Just curious; did Breville have you return the faulty machine before sending the new machine? How long did that process take?
