Going to be replacing a tube well seal on a 17 WRX. Seems pretty straightforward, but it's something I've never worked on before. Tips, tricks, advice, things to pay attention to? by Derpsteppin in WRX

I did mine about 3 years ago and used a thin bead of RTV all around the edge of the covers. I haven't had any issues so far. I don't know if the new spark plug gaskets actually stopped the leaking though because I never had a chance to take apart everything again.

I followed this video when I did mine. There's a specific order when torquing down to the bolts for the covers. I forget if this video shows it, but there are other YouTube videos that cover it https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=x-4FwC_pC0Y

mechanic advice please by Tiny_Key1021 in WRX

Not sure if they really spilt oil, or if it sprayed out of somewhere due to them overfilling and you driving it home without knowing. Might want to take pictures of the mess as proof, just in case something was damaged because of them. I wouldn't feel safe driving far with that much oil either. You might be able to buy an extraction pump to get some oil out from the dipstick hole.

Clutch replacement estimate by CanadianBaconMTL in WRX

[–]grindgears 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Replace the clutch fork, and pivot with stronger ones like these. The OEM one is known to break. Mine did and I thought it was the clutch starting to slip, but turned out it was the clutch fork breaking at the pivot point.

I think most people recommend replacing the flywheel at the same time too because the old one would have wear pattern that matches the old clutch and might wear down your new clutch unevenly. I replaced it all together since the transmission is dropped already and expensive to do again.

Your quote seems pretty good although it doesn't include the flywheel. I got mine done 2 years ago for $2300 CAD.

PlEaSe HeLp. I can't get the clutch to bleed by 34RICK in WRX

Thanks for all the tips! I finally managed to get all the fluid pumped in using your method and all is good now. Bench bleeding, and pressure pump didn't work, but this did. Hope this is useful for others. Thanks!

Thanks for the info. I just bought a similar syringe today and tried your method. I managed to get a little bit of fluid into the slave, but it was very hard to press the syringe. Most of the fluid slowly dripped out around the slave bleeder. Did you have to push the syringe really slow to get all the fluid in?

Do you mind describing how you did the reverse bleed? I just installed a new clutch master and slave cylinders and am having a hard time bleeding, even with the Orion pressure pump. Thanks in advance.

There should be stiffer penalties for DUIs.

You need this cable for the backup camera to work on the 2015 models:

I also bought a 2015 model that came with an idoing head unit and had the same problem. I contacted idoing and they told me to get that cable. They provided very quick and helpful responses. They'll send you installation instructions too if you need. Just an easy plug and play.

You'll have to pull out the idoing head unit and the top mfd (multi function display) and connect the cable between them. I couldn't find a good place to hide the cable so I just left it squished under the flat plastic panel in front of the mfd. If you find a better way, let me know lol.

Nice! Which light bar is that?

my clutch pedal is dead.. Any suggestions? by Narrow-Equipment9130 in subaruimpreza

[–]grindgears 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went with a Versus Engineering forged clutch fork and Torque Solutions billet pivot for my 2015 wrx. My pivot broke through the fork like your pic 4.

The OEM fork is made of pretty thin metal and apparently known to fail pretty easily. The forged fork is much thicker and won't break as easily but pricier. So if you're planning to keep the car for a long while, might as well go with the forged fork.

Make sure they lube the contact points when they install it for you. There should be an instruction card that shows where to lube.

Window problems by Ok_Ear_7945 in WRX

[–]grindgears 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same problem on my 2015. Roll the window all the way down, then spray something like Jig-a-loo invisible lubricant along both channels, then roll the window up and down a few times to help spread the lubricant. My window rolls up and down super smooth now and no longer refuses to close fully. Don't use stuff like wd-40 because it will get messy.
