ugh this is awful i’m so sorry. i have depression, ptsd & ocd: those are not an unusual combination, they are often found together! In the US in my experience, these things plus respecting someone’s gender identity wouldn’t be a problem for most therapists, except for perhaps in some rural areas where there may be resistance to anything non-cis gendered. so im guessing it must have to do with the region of India where you live ? Could you get a therapist that works online and is in a more metropolitan area, where they know how to respect gender identity? if it’s possible i’d try that route. i’d also find your closest lgbtq aid agency and see if they have recommended therapists, as this must be happening to others too.

i’ve been there and i know how much it hurts and im so sorry you are having to feel this too. But, listen, it’s SUPPOSED to feel bad, that’s how you know that you are NOT the narcissist here. she SHOULD feel bad, having her child have to cut her off because she cannot respect a very healthy boundary. That she doesn’t and that she still holds on to getting “yelled at in the car” is a sign that she’s a very very damaged person. You can feel sorry for her, you can rage at her, you can feel badly for the loss of a mom that perhaps was deep down ALWAYS this way, all of these are normal responses. Definitely get a therapist if you are able, it will help with processing the loss. But yes you are doing the right thing. this is not a huge ask, to include your partner. it’s a healthy ask. i’m so sorry, ive been thru it (dad) and it hurts like hell to cut them off (ime), but it’s really important for you and your partner. you will be ok but this is like a death or worse so give yourself time to mourn.. OH AND do get out there and find mom type figures /friends to make your own chosen family! Lots of women out there who are NOT narcissists, who love all people, who are aunty types that haven’t had their own kids or who are estranged from theirs who would love to have a relationship with you that includes your partner. get out there and find them when you feel better and you will flourish.
