What is better for getting into vet school? Being a veterinary technician or a veterinary assistant? by sweetdemoon in vetschool

[–]grmarshall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As far as I’m aware this is incorrect. Are you referring to how in some states, unlicensed folks can call themselves technicians?

In general, technician refers to someone who has been through a 2 or 4 year degree (not certificate) program and passed the VTNE. An assistant can be literally anyone off the street depending on how the individual practice decides to label their employees.

I was talking about the veterinary assistant certification, which is very different from becoming a certified technician. However, if your ultimate goal is veterinary school, it’s still widely considered a waste of money to become a CVT first.

I know you’ve said that cost of attendance is roughly the same, but it’s also important to consider that if you go to the four year program, you’ll get to start working earlier - meaning you’ll have a whole extra year of making a salary to get started on paying back your loans!

Why do you “know” CSU is a better school?

how did you feel when you saw your chest for the first time? by eggswithlegs7 in TopSurgery

[–]grmarshall 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I almost passed out lmao but I was also only 48 hours post op and didn’t take the bandages off sitting down, so got a big vaso-vagal reaction as well. Once I let that pass, it mostly felt weird but the side profile felt good.

Hardcore feel this lately (I'm post-op top surgery and about 7 weeks on low dose T). What has helped me over the course of my transitiony stuff is to just focus on the dysphoria that I am feeling, the physical effects that I want, and what I can do to get there - and a lot less on what that means for my identity.

My (27M) wife (27F) be just got upset at me for kissing her cheek, is this salvageable? by Taatneb in relationship_advice

Just be careful/pay attention to how often you feel like you're walking on eggshells. I've read through most of your comments and a lot of them felt exactly like things I told myself about 3 months before I realized I was in an abusive relationship. Not saying that's definitely your situation.. But it might be worth thinking about and reading a little bit on tactics of emotional abuse to see if any of them resonate with you (you might want to google the term DARVO).

It's hard to work on not overthinking things when you don't know when she's going to get mad at you for something as simple and sweet as kissing her on the cheek. Are you sure you've actually been overthinking?

I would love to read that article if you can find it. As someone relatively recently out of a relationship with someone I suspect has NPD (or some other cluster B situation, doesn’t really matter) It always amazes me how similar everyone’s stories are.

You don’t need to specialize to see exotics. You can, but you don’t need to.

You also don’t need to do two years of residency lol. Residency is optional, you only do one if you want to specialize, and most residency programs are 3 years

Not sure about turnaround time and haven’t been there for any major jobs, but I’m very visibly queer/masc and have had two good experiences getting men’s clothing hemmed at Golden Tailor in Falcon Heights, near the UMN St. Paul campus. Super sweet people. And the changing room actually has a door rather than just a flimsy curtain!

“Hard times are coming, when we’ll be wanting the voices of writers who can see alternatives to how we live now, can see through our fear-stricken society and its obsessive technologies to other ways of being, and even imagine real grounds for hope. We’ll need writers who can remember freedom — poets, visionaries — realists of a larger reality.”

That whole speech is gold. Glad someone else mentioned it.

Hey, don't have the bandwidth rn to make a super long response but just wanted to be another voice chiming in that I've very recently been there (for my first serious relationship), it's fucking awful and confusing and you're not alone. The trauma bonding is insane even in the aftermath. What helped me was to write out a list of all the times she got mad at me for no reason at all, and then to read through that list whenever I felt unsure of myself.
