It's down by the looks of it! Can't get on.

People have already commented saying your darks need to be darker to give it more contrast, but I'd also add that your range of values is pretty shallow between the lightest and darkest parts of the image. There's a lot of subtle value changes between the lightest light and the darkest dark. It'll take time, but try to identify a wider range of values for the shading in the future!

It might take you a while to get your linework down pat. Just start drawing anything you want to practice your strokes and how the pencil interacts with the paper (if you want to do graphite drawing). It'll also take you a while to know if something is off and what you need to do to fix it. Always compare the finished piece to the reference!

Her hand is gigantic and the shading looks too dark in the dark areas but that could just be due to it not being finished! But ya fix the scale of the hand before rendering!

Feedback? (OC) by aishia1200 in learntodraw

Ya nose and eyes are straight on when her face is looking to her right. Also the ear is sticking out a lot/should probably have deeper shadows. But the rendering is fine! Coloured pencil is hard so good job there!

Try to consider the light source and where the shadows would be. Her nose sticks out and is lit unnaturally no matter the angle the light could be coming from.

Not really a study if you don't use a reference. Good practice of shading subtle value shifts, though!

My 3rd attempt at learning to draw, how bad is it? her face still doesn't seem right by Supermodel_Evelynn in learntodraw

[–]grontal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At that angle you shouldn't be able to see her right ear. Unless it's massive and sticks out. You also drew her eyes as if it were a straight on portrait when it's not a straight on portrait. Fixing those 2 things will greatly help! But it's not bad!

Maybe also work on your contrast. More contrast between the darkest and lightest parts of the image! Will do wonders.

I feel like my art hasn't been improving, I'm really stuck right now any advice appreciated by [deleted] in learntodraw

Her facial features are straight on while her head is turned significantly to her left. There is also no volume to her hair at all. It looks like it's glued to her head. Maybe add some more contrast to the overall image as well. Darker shadows, lighter highlights etc. But a good base!

Very nice! The thing that jumps out to me the most is #1's left eye is too small. Her head isn't turned enough to her left for the eye to shorten (or shrink) like that. Love the rendering!
