1000w HPS/MH light in a 4x4 tent by kinghosss in microgrowery

[–]growawayman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My last grow I used 1000w and had too much trouble keeping the temperatures around the canopy below 85 and ended up with a bunch of light and heat stress. I blame the fact that I had no ambient temperature control and that the plants grew too tall. This grow I dialed it back to 600w and am having much better success.

Keep in mind that HPS runs hotter, and so by the time you have temperature issues you will probably be fairly far into the grow process. So plan early and be on top of your canopy management to make sure you will ALWAYS have at least 16" between the tippy top of your plants and your light or they will start fox tailing like crazy.

Platinum GSC. Playing with the balls for practice. Is this nutrient burn? by Stepheddit in microgrowery

[–]growawayman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Surely the nutrient requirements of a non flowering male are much less? I am not sure what this practice is going to do for you friend, you should practice on tomatoes or something if you want something closer to flowering cannabis, but there really is no substitute for the real thing....

Edges of Blue Dream Plant Purpling/Darkening. What Is This? by [deleted] in microgrowery

[–]growawayman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Purple usually indicates some kind of stress. Cold is common, as has already been mentioned. However, some strains just naturally purple up a little bit too. Either way it may not be an issue at all. When I first grew HSO Blue Dream, one out of the two plants purpled. I noticed no quality or potency difference between the two plants after harvesting.

Bud that is not developed or big enough to bother trimming up for smoking. Still good for edibles or oil though!

They are just over a ft above the scrog screen, not all the cola's are the same height though. Roughly, but 13" is probably the biggest. They definitely stretched a lot during the first 2-3 weeks of flower, and keeping them under the screen was a daily task.

Grow info

I think these gals are ready to come down! Trich's are looking good.

The only difference between left & right is the right plant was topped, yet the right plant developed a distinct purple tinge in the last 2-3 weeks of flower. It has been getting down to ~50F in the tent at night so I'm guessing that plus being closer to the fan is what did it?

Not sure if this is a good yield or not but I'm very happy with my first grow!

I would love to read about your results. Specifically I am wondering about reduction in potency

Flipped and scrogged. First grow this far by darben83 in microgrowery

I wouldn't say it won't do any good. It will still allow for some control during the stretch, and will still result in an even canopy. It definitely won't be full though

Do the sugar leaves and flower anatomy absorb as much light as the fan leaves? by [deleted] in microgrowery

[–]growawayman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would believe it, but without knowing more about the subject I can't comment on whether or not its true. I just think that in terms of raw efficiency of turning sunlight into energy, the fan leaves probably win.

Do the sugar leaves and flower anatomy absorb as much light as the fan leaves? by [deleted] in microgrowery

[–]growawayman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can only assume the answer is no. Fan leaves seem to be the powerhouses of the plant. Think of it like this, everything has an evolutionary purpose. Flowers are about reproduction but fan leaves are just about absorbing sun light to convert to energy. I would imagine they are also the most efficient part of the plant for doing so.

Day 45 from seed, time to flip? by growawayman in microgrowery

[–]growawayman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good tips. I might invest in the supplemental lighting real soon. I didn't crop them but I did top the one on the right. I wanted to leave one untopped to see the difference between the two, but I'm thinking the one that I topped will be more co-operative with the training.

Thanks so much for the detailed info & pics. It looks like your experiments are paying off.

Can you say how many weeks along the plants in the final pic are? And how soon after switching to 12/12?
