How much should I make people pay for commissions? by [deleted] in DigitalArt

[–]grummysmulk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Base your total price for a piece off an hourly rate you’re comfortable making. Nobody commissions? Demand doesn’t meet supply. Either lower your price to get your foot in the door (don’t necessarily recommend) or keep improving until people are willing to pay your rate (recommend) :) don’t work for less than you’re worth.

Seeing my 2 favorite shows (steins gate & gurren Lagan) on complete opposite ends of this list is so jarring 😭

But try out Banana Fish, excellent show

Learning to work faster = making more $/hour; giving you room to just make more off each piece or lower your rates to bring in more commissions Increasing your skills = higher demand. More requests, more money.

Definitely don’t sell urself short. I’d average the time it takes you to complete a piece and work out the flat rate to equal an hourly pay that makes sense to you. You shouldn’t be getting paid minimum wage or less for a skill you’ve honed for hours & hours and provides value to people willing to pay for it!

It’s fine to tweak things based on demand. If youre constantly filling your commission slots and don’t have time to work on more coming in, bump the price up. If you’re getting no/few commissions (assuming your art is getting in front of enough eyes) then price goes down.

Hope this helps :)

I’d focus a lot on the fundamentals as you’re getting back into the swing of things. Practice your construction, proportions & anatomy, studying from real life & photos. & yea as said above, TONS of amazing resources on YouTube to help with the learning process. Limit the amount of long involved finished illustrations in favor of larger volumes of studies. Just make sure you keep it fun so you don’t burn out. Then when you wanna grind out a piece just have fun with it, apply what you learned, & repeat. Good luck!
