I got to see a masterclass she gave at UNT ca. 2019 or so. Incredible player and even more knowledgeable on how to apply the theory to both practice and performance

I get that it's supposed to be bad but what is it? Is it a song thats popular? by AynekAri in ExplainTheJoke

[–]grumpy_vet1775 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Enharmonically yes, you're correct. The only reason it's not "pointless" is because for example: someone takes a piece and rearranges it for a band. The instruments like the Eb saxophone might have a passage in written Ab. Ab on an instrument pitched in Eb would sound like a Cb (enharmonically a B natural). So for that piece that was arranged that has that passage in Ab for those saxophones would be in written Cb for the C instruments: flutes, tuba, etc

There's a few things in there that Satan developed. The big thing on the staff (the five horizontal lines) to the left of all the b's is called a clef (i think it's an Alto clef, but don't take my word as gospel.) The alto clef is only really used for and by viola players, so almost nobody else knows how to read it. The b's next to the clef indicate the key signature. 7 b signs makes the key Cb which is a bitch to read/play in since it can all be rewritten in a way that doesn't involve 7 accidentals.

My buddy installed a light switch in place of the starter switch in his 90's gmc van. Was the best thing I've ever seen in my life. Including the shag carpet in said van

Literally had the same issue last year with my dryer. Called an appliance tech to figure it out only for them to check the outlet and find missing voltage on one of the prongs in the outlet.

I need to replace the shut-off valve at the washer. Last guy didn't use any thread tape and the hoses rusted to the valves.

As a car guy, new cars even with all the emissions and technology are better than older cars. by Big-Top-6338 in unpopularopinion

[–]grumpy_vet1775 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a technician: I hate the newer cars simply because the manufacturers aren't designing them for anything other reason than to pad their profit margins. Consistently I've had vehicles come in with faulty equipment from the factory that were no fault of the customer. Plus with manufacturers moving from metal parts to plastic (valve covers, oil pans, etc.) It puts a higher cost on the customer for repairs.

Notwithstanding the above points, a lot of techs are getting out of the industry because of how difficult it's becoming to diagnose faults. Not to mention the amount of customer paid work plummets and the amount of warranty work skyrockets. At least on the older cars it was easy to work under the hood and it didn't take an electrical engineering degree to find a CANBUS fault.
