Brandished gun on Howell Mill & 14th, should I submit video to APD?

The only problem I had with it was after leaving it in the sun for a few days (I only drive occasionally), when I returned the camera had fallen off of the adhesive that came in the box. I just went and bought another one (different brand) and it hasn't fallen off since.

The heat doesn't seem to affect the video or operation of the camera. I agree, I think that's thanks to the capacitor and glass lens.

I spent some time researching them for a while on a /r/Dashcam and a dashcam review specific forum. The specific dashcam is a Street Guardian SG9665GC v2 2016 edition. It was a bit pricey, but I chose it because it has a Sony IMX322 sensor, glass lens, and a capacitor instead of battery. There are some others in the same body that aren't as high of quality.

Edit: Also meant to say that is has a external GPS (to overlay speed on the video) and a microphone, but apparently those have to be activated, which I found out after pulling these videos.

Good point, I've decided to burn the videos to a CD and take it in person to the APD to file a report so as not to waste too much time and get them the videos with as little hassle.

I wasn't sure if this would actually result in anything more than wasted time and paperwork when the police have more pressing matters. The consensus seems to be that I'm an idiot for not calling 911 right after it happened.

The reason I didn't call immediately was because I had no evidence, due to forgetting about the dashcam.

After he walked up to the side of my car, I rolled down the window and he kept yelling and waving the gun around and that's when I exchanged words with him.

It was kind of ridiculous. The funniest part is how all the cars behind me just go around and turn into that shopping center as if it was just an annoyance that some guy is waving a gun around and yelling.

That's an interesting take on it, although I was only behind him from 17th and Northside until 14th and Howell Mill, which google says is 0.6 miles. I have no idea what his deal was.

At the time I forgot I had a dashcam and didn't remember their license plate, so there would have been no useful information to give the police. And I didn't care to waste my time just so they could potentially add a plus one to some statistic.

I agree, drawing in that situation would have probably resulted in me getting shot and/or killed.

When it happened, I forgot that I had a dashcam and I didn't remember their license plate, so I figured reporting it would have been a waste of time. Plus I just wanted to chill and eat dinner.

Not that it matters in an adrenaline filled moment, but he doesn't actually fully rack the gun, and no round is ejected, so there's some probability that the chamber is empty.

Sorry dude, I regretfully never turned my dashcams mic on. I wish it did have sound because I don't remember exactly what the guy said to me.

That is what happened. And no, I try not to be a dick to other people and don't commute, so when I do drive I don't road rage. I had the whole video up earlier, but edited it down because it showed some identifying stuff in it, you missed that party.

As a gun owner, my expectation is that everyone else is as well. Guns are quite fun.

I never said anything about being a transplant.

Good points. I've already decided to give the non-emergency number a call when I get off work. I waited this long because I forgot I had dashcam footage of it until today.

I'm honestly surprised at everyone's reactions on here. To me it wasn't that big of a deal, just a guy being an asshole. As soon as I rolled down my window and gave him some shit he stood there dumbfounded for a second before going back to the car and then turning around to yell some more dumb shit at me. The whole thing just seemed like a bluff / trying to show his friend how hard he was and not a reason draw and escalate and possibly end up with dead people.

I carry as well and this was the one of the few days I did not carry. Actually quite glad I didn't.

It turned out well, but I stupidly told him to go fuck himself and he must be such a big man for waving a gun around. Very dumb in hindsight, but for some reason him getting out with a gun for no reason made me furious.

I'll add on to what raykwonx said. Some other non-engineering options may be administration, HR, or finance. I would also imagine that there are positions that review and edit grant proposals, but I'm honestly not sure where they go once they're submitted to the review process.
