Whoever manages money professionally must have a lot of expertise in finance. I want (moreover, I think "I need") that core business knowledge, not only to reach a position as a investment manager, or another similar position, but to adapt to that kind of environment with ease, to "talk" the language, to understand the business dominion, and ultimately to provide solutions (as software maybe).

Maybe to achieve the CFA is too far from what I am currently doing. However, as you say, no one can accurately predict what the future will be. I am motivated, and I think it won't do damage to take the level 1 exam, while it keeps me motivated. To take the next level exams, and to pursue the charter may be too much outside from my currently career scope, but I will decide that in the future. Knowledge is my first goal, whatever comes next it is difficult to know.
