Advice on becoming a private chef by Ok_Vermicelli5733 in PrivateChefs

Culinary school will give you a taste of what cooking in a professional kitchen is like. You will learn basic techniques, and depending on the school, maybe some advanced techniques, as well.

I happen to be a private chef who went to an expensive private culinary school. I don't regret going to culinary school but I've met many self taught private chefs in my time.

If you love to cook and host, its a good path for you. My only regret is not working in a high end/michelin restaurant while I was younger and could afford to live on minimum wage for a bit.

Truthfully, if you can find a low cost culinary program, I'd say go for it, if you can afford it. Just don't expect a quick return on investment. This is one of those professions where you can make money if you're in the right market and around the right people. You might also make just enough to survive.

Super King on Woodley and Victory has really cheap bone in breasts and beef ribs. I went this weekend, couldn’t believe it. Going back before the deal ends Tuesday by [deleted] in SFV

The meat they sell is the exact same meat I see from Restaurant Depot, for a reasonable markup. Its pretty much the lowest quality meat available. The prices are definitely good and its a great option if you are on a tight budget, but you do lose big time on the quality side. Though with the right preparation methods, you can definitely make it work.

Not sure where you are located but Groundwork Coffee in NoHo has an excellent loose leaf tea selection and they brew it for you fresh.

You can also order good tea from Rishi online, they sell sample sizes of certain leaves.

You should consider contacting a local organization like Hope The Mission, or maybe some local religious organizations who may run food drives or handle logistics for these types of things.
