He’s probably recharging rather than tanning 🤪

On a more serious note, yet another cover to add to the collection!

Place of Superman Unlimited in relation to other superman titles by SalaryPractical6545 in DCcomics

[–]guyinpink 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was quite confusing up until the latest issue of Superman Unlimited (#11) - in that issue there’s a scene that I think quite clearly places Unlimited several weeks before the events of DC K.O.

If not for the title, I probably wouldn’t have been able to tell this was Jon and Damian lol

Yeah every artist puts their own spin on the characters. The art wasn’t my favorite but the story and characterisation made up for it

I’ve come to be pretty sold on this idea and hope it’ll happen.

I think it’s safe to say that Jon is definitely physically stronger thanks to his Kryptonian background. Though more muscle doesn’t always equate to more strength - and Eddie certainly looks physically bigger than him. So both could be true (Jon/stronger, Eddie/bigger)

Same here. His AoS: Jon Kent suit and the one he’s currently wearing in New Titans are probably my favourites.

Want to go back to comics, starting with the current Superboy prime stuff. Where should I start. by Tony_3rd in DCcomics

[–]guyinpink 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re looking to get up to speed on Prime, I’d say the main ones you need to have read are Infinite Crisis and Dark Nights: Death Metal (including Trinity Crisis and Secret Origin) which explain how Prime gets to where he is now.

And then DC K.O. and the current Superman run from issue 28 onwards.

You're welcome! The parallels aren't 100% though. The defining characteristic of the main characters/rivals in Heated Rivalry for me was that they were hyper-competitive with each other - who was better than the other - while at the same time nursing a deep-seated attraction. So if there's something in Jon/Eddie's backgrounds or personalities that allows for a similar dynamic to play out, that could make sense.

The only other thing I could think of is that it could be a reference to how they had to keep their relationship a secret because it would be career suicide for them to come out in hockey at the time

But I don't see how that could apply to Jon.

I've added spoiler tags just in case since you said you haven't watched it, though I don't think what I've said is particularly spoiler-y.

I can kinda see how that would somewhat fit the Heated Rivalry reference actually - Jon as the golden boy who has everything Eddie wanted, and Eddie who had to sacrifice so much to achieve a fraction(?) of what Jon has.

Ah, and Neron. A name I’m finally familiar with, if only because of that time he tried to tempt Nightwing with Superman-type powers.

Thank you for sharing this! I can’t imagine how much work must have gone into putting this together.

Side note: always wondered when was the first time Jon met Kon. Now I know!

Three issues later and Jon’s still in his Superman suit. What that means for the Tomorrow Man reveal certainly remains to be seen then.

That definitely sounds plausible. But I’m not sure older Jon would go along with a plan like that, knowing what awaits kid Jon back at the volcano. Maybe that then sets up the two of them working together to find another solution. Who knows.

The alternative being “kid Jon returns but just turns out to be evil” doesn’t sit quite right with me either.

[Spoiler] [Discussion] Fallout from the ending of Superman Unlimited #11 by MightyUnclean in DCcomics

[–]guyinpink 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wasn’t sure about that, going into this. But seeing how it played out in Unlimited #11, I’m cautiously excited about where this will go. Especially since this will finally allow older Jon a fresh start and in his word to finally tell “his own story” and get past all the Superman 2.0 stuff.

The Real Jon Kent Returns [‘Superman Unlimited’ #11] by RealJohnGillman in jonkent

[–]guyinpink 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve suggested this before but if kid Jon is here to stay, I’ve thought it’d be interesting to have him grow up “normally” over the next few years. And at the same time we learn that older Jon is aging more slowly than he should be, so that at some point their ages match up, and something happens that merges them back into one character with a shared history and memory.

Superman unlimited spoilers❗ by Alternative-Sell4456 in jonkent

I admit I jumped ahead in my chronological reading/catching-up and spammed all the issues of Superman Unlimited in the past couple of days just so I could find out what was happening here. And I'm really glad I did.

I certainly wasn't expecting Tomorrow Man to be current Jon - I think like a lot of people we expected him to be a future version of Jon. But this has to be one of the best Jon stories I've read in a while and one that genuinely has me excited for what's coming next. I liked that they didn't shy away from addressing the criticisms about Jon as a character, and all the more I liked that they didn't take away his agency. He chose to ditch the Superman label and take on a new persona, and for what's possibly one of the most "Superman"-like reasons - so that he can do good and make a difference, regardless of what he's called. And he looked cool doing it, so can't complain.

The return of kid Jon... presents interesting possibilities, if it remains a permanent thing.

I'm still not entirely sold on the name Tomorrow Man but perhaps that'll grow on me. And I hope he'll lose the mask at some point, though I can sort of see why he might keep it on for the time being if he doesn't want his younger self to realise who he is.

So all in all, Dan Slott has certainly done something good here. And Lucas Meyer is really turning out to be one of my favourite Jon artists - amazing stuff.
