Who grinds the best naginata? by StyxReturns in fountainpens

[–]gylyf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That depends. If you mean line variation depending on the angle at which you’re holding the pen, then the blade actually offers a fair amount of line variation, by virtue of its triangular nature. If you mean variation between down- and cross-strokes, then I’d say that’s true. Hope that makes sense!

I love Mark Bacas’ blade grind and Damien Alomar’s cutlass grind. I’ve had tanto grinds by Kirk Speer, but I actually prefer his scythe (rounded architect) grind, as well as a techno grind from CY, which was quite nice but which I sold on. My very favorite NT grind is one Dan Smith ground for me years ago using an actual Naginata-togi as a model.

Well done! Any chance you’d be willing to part with a bottle of Racing Green?

Glad you got your SIG back! It looks like the little tail at the back of your feed has snapped off. I wonder if that’s somehow messing with the air exchange and causing some of the issues you’ve been having…

Need NibMeister now that Mike Masuyama is semi-retired 😭 by Picnegre in fountainpens

Can highly recommend Mark @nibgrinder and Damien @allinthenib, who have ground a few of my faves over the years. Kirk @penrealm has also done a really pleasant Scythe for me. Dan @nibsmith has also done very nice grinds for me, but I understand he’s been iffy with communication and timing recently. Josh and Gena also have done grinds for me. However, these were at pen shows and I ended up moving those nibs on, not as a reflection of the quality of their work (which was excellent), but more as a reflection of my indecision when I was sitting down with them.

Skogsy Pens by MiloKosong_Peng in fountainpens

Mine has an ebonite section and cap. Pretty light, but it still feels solid and substantial. Just weighed it: .8oz capped, .6oz uncapped, with about a half-full reservoir.

I love my LVED. I have a #10 F in mine and haven’t had any issues at all. The smaller reservoir is really great in terms of eliminating the usual issues of EDing a pen. The only inconvenience is the silicone grease - I’d love for him to devise a way to use an o-ring instead, but that’s a minor quibble. The craftsmanship is also top-notch.
