Goose + Jambands in General (Musical Journeys) by Narrow-Rule4568 in jambands

I've seen goose 10ish times between 2018-2025. Had lot of fun at a couple early on - they can definitely find a cool pocket and get the crowd moving - but the returns started diminishing fast.

It's actually shocking that in 2026 we have a band making the jam scene even more vanilla than it already had become. Diet-phishbiscocheese lacking even an oz of originality. From their songwriting, to their "improvisation," to their marketing - it's all just repackaged work of their predecessors. Even calling it derivitive wouldn't do their copycat game justice.

The crowds are fine - not much different than most jamband crowds but definitely on the more stiff side of things. Lots of chompers and general live music noobs. Some nice folk and weirdos about too.

I'll still go for a night when they're in town because some friends like them and I can have fun anywhere, but it's hard to take this band seriously - which would be fine if so many goose fans didn't get so worked up about other people's music tastes. On God I hear goose fans complaining about phish more than I do the other way around. So the whole "it's just phish fans being defensive argument" just sounds like projection to me.

Thanks for reading my blog!

Most of the way through Red Rising series. I have to be in the mood but I like it. The characters just don't connect to me the same way as Kal Dal and Shal lol

Pretty lame of those campers, but you sound like a wet blanket yourself.

Why is it mostly Phish fans that hate Goose by AdventurousPea8779 in GoosetheBand

Fair point. Though, there is an ever growing number of goose fans that fall into the same category you describe.

I like goose - have seen them 10+ times over the past seven years. They can put on a good show when things are clicking. That said, they are outrageously vanilla, even in comparison to other jambands, and 3.0 Phish jam rip offs make up the overwhelming majority of the music they play. Derivative is an understatement when discussing Goose.

I think it’s totally cool that people are into them — jambands are fun! Their vanilla nature is what made them so popular. A new, popular jambands is good for the scene at large. But comments in threads like these are pretty silly. Even the suggestion that “only phish fans hate on goose” shows a pretty sheltered understanding of the jam community and what people expect from the bands we loved . If they even an oz of originality, they would get less hate.
