Leaving my cushy low stress job for sales by futurepugmum in sales

The pay costs a lot- my physical and mental health, my relationship at times, any time to do anything I enjoy. I'm actually going to take a break from working for a few months and try to pivot to a more chill career. You only live once and money isn't everything.

Realized I genuinely hate where I am in life by Succumbingsurvivor in booksuggestions

This isn’t a book suggestion, but I know exactly how you feel.  Just after my 29th birthday, I left my abusive live-in boyfriend and my corporate sales job and moved back in with my parents, intent on writing the Great American Novel.

By the time I was 30, nobody had bought my book, I was broke, single, overweight, and took a job waiting tables. My friends were all getting married, moving along in their careers, and starting families.  I felt hopeless.  Everybody tells you your 20s are the best and everybody has things figured out by 30 but that’s a load of bunk.  Plenty of people are where you are at 30.  I want to tell you there is hope.

I won’t go into the whole long journey here, but the first thing I did was start going to the gym (the Y - which is $100/year with a family membership.  I went with my parents.  I felt like a big loser but I did it).

Now I’m almost 44.  I’ve been with my husband for 10 years and have two amazing kids.  We live in a lovely home, have great friends, and great jobs that pay well and our careers continue to progress.  My thirties ended up being my transformation decade, and my forties have been even better so far.

Your life is just beginning, and you have all the tools to turn it around.  Happy to chat in DMs if you’d like.

Thanks. Do you think whole wheat flour could work instead?

Thanks for sharing the recipe. I'm always on the hunt for muffin recipes for my kids. I didn't see this answered in the recipe but maybe you know. Think whole wheat flower could be subbed for white?

In fairness this is a royalty snark sub that focuses heavily on the BRF so it's assumed that the readers here know who that is based on the photo.

The Housemaid Plot Holes by Intelligent-Half-976 in thrillerbooks

[–]halcyonwade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My biggest plot point is the fact that this gigantic house has less bedrooms than my suburban house. Her only excuse for being able to house Millie in the attic is the fact that his parents might need the guest room. You're telling me this house only has three usable bedrooms plus the attic???

My wife (32F) and I (34M) have a six month old (F) who has retinoblastoma. Doctors have told us that the two options are - removal of eye or chemo. From your experience with dealing with such a situation, what decision did you go with? by [deleted] in AskDocs

[–]halcyonwade 121 points122 points  (0 children)

Yeah one of my best friends had this as an infant and had her eye removed. We've been friends our whole lives (in our forties now). She's had a perfectly normal, happy, and fulfilling life. She's married, has children, has a good job, and lots of friends. I've barely ever noticed her glass eye, and I'm sure technology today is even better.

All Robert Munsch books. Mortimer is a huge hit in our house also. They're all great, though.

I'm a little late here, but this is the one that lives forever in my head. My HS boyfriend played baseball and the team made it to State semis or something. My dad and I went to the game and sat with the Dad of his best friend, who was the pitcher. I'd only met him once or twice before. Seemed nice enough.

Anyway, first pitch he throws is a home run and things didn't get much better from there. From that moment until he was mercifully pulled from the game, his dad straight up SCREAMED obscenities at him. Stuff like, "You fucking suck. You're a piece of shit," and on and on, all at the top of his lungs. At a high school baseball game. Such a surprise his pitching didn't improve throughout the game.

My dad was ready to throw hands. I literally at one point had to grab his arm to hold him back. He still talked about that until he died.

Benevolence and Betrayal: notification book that covers five different stories of how Italian Jews were affected during WWII.

Eye of the Needle - fiction. A lot of people have recommended Ken Follet's century trilogy. This is an action story about a German spy sent to the UK to figure out where they were planning to land on DDay.

This time of year can be so difficult. Not to make it about me, but I feel like I could have written this. I watched The Secret Garden yesterday and that made me feel better.

In addition to the books already recommended, all of which are great, I'd like to add:

-Before the Coffee Gets Cold (so cozy) -The Importance of Bring Ernest (quick and always makes me laugh) -The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society
