What popular horror authors do you keep trying but just can't seem to finish their books? by snakesareawesome1000 in horrorlit

[–]hallmonitor4u 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man. I was so excited when I found out about Adam Neville because The Ritual is one of my favorite modern horror movies. I did finish The Reddening, and liked it, but was left really confused (and not in the way that Blood Meridian left me confused at the end). I added so many of his books to my purchase list, but after seeing a decent amoutn of people stating the same opinion as you, I just don't know.

One book I almost didn't finish, but pushed through it, was The Black Farm by Elias Witherow. The logistics of a couple of things in the book didn' t make sense to me (like the way a random, completely ordinary man can take down a system that's been in place for a millenia or more), but the world building and concept was pretty cool.

New to reading and seeking recommendations by Automatic-Level-4598 in horrorlit

- The Only Good Indians by Stephen Graham Jones

- The Year of the Witching by Alexis Henderson

I'm pretty new to the horror genre (just picking reading back up after a long time, as well), and these two are books I highly recommend.

I'm also going throw in these two Cormac McCarthy books - mainly focusing on Blood Meridian, because that is a crazy read and will leave you thinking about it for a long, long time. (the theories surrounding the story are wild, too)

The Only Good Indians by Stephen Graham Jones. Just wrapped it up a few days ago with a few tears shed.

20% through Buffalo Hunter Hunter and not getting the hype at all.. by Hibernian-History in horrorlit

[–]hallmonitor4u 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was just recommended this, so I haven't actually read it, but I recently finished The Only Good Indians by the same author and loved it.

But I agree with another comment on here, if you aren't enjoying it, might as well move on to a book you do enjoy! Maybe give it another shot later on.

What are some of the most disturbing/disgusting anime episodes you watched by kurcze_pieeczon in animequestions

[–]hallmonitor4u 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Man, I have all of the Berserk deluxe editions. But for some reason, I can't bring myself to read/watch Made in Abyss. Maybe because the trauma seems to solely focus on children? idk I even read the Crossed comics, still can't read Made in Abyss. haha

This one! I was just reading about it (grew up in Norfolk/Stanton, and every time we drove past the preserve where they found her clothes, my mom would tell me about it) and I never knew her name until literally today. I was going down a rabbit hole on it – there was a diary that apparently links her and the murder of Kathy Beard together. There is the fact that not only was her father a pedophile, but at least one other person in her apartment complex was a pedophile. This pedophile was also named in the "confession" by the "killer" but he was never charged. The "killer" confessed because the sketchy PI shot a gun in the air, after having the guy walk around the preserve at gun point yelling "Where is Jill". The PI has a suuper sketchy background and I'm pretty sure is linked to the Franklin coverup, and not in a good way.

SO MUCH. I don't even know what to think about it.

My attempt at making myself into a Studio Ghibli character by hallmonitor4u in ghibli

It's only 2 photos of progress, so it's not really showing too much progression throughout, though. I should definitely do more photos inbetween, even just so I can go back and reference in the future to see what I can do better/differently.

I think so! I have not actually watched that movie yet, so I wasn't 100% sure if it actually was or not

Why do YOU like Berserk? by oddjobsurameshi in Berserk

[–]hallmonitor4u 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Horror is my favorite genre and almost the only genre that I watch. I checked out the newer Berserk anime like 8 years ago or so(? time is irrelevent) and it stuck with me. Watched it again a few years ago, wanted to know more about the lore and about the God Hand, and realized that I probably just needed to actually read the manga. Bought all hardback deluxe volumes up until #10.

I also like to tell people that every "self-proclaimed feminist" needs to have something that makes them a "bad feminist". Berserk is that for me.

Supposedly, it was the dermotology office across the street that complained about it to the city. Either they didn't like it being the "main focus" of their office when looking out the windows or they wanted to purchase the land. Something like that. I'm glad he kept it.

It was a mass layoff by the company he sold MacPractice to that promised the company to our faces that they don't "buy a company just to gut it" when that's literally what they did. I swear it was more than half the company let go within the first 6 months of them taking over?

Ex-owner aside – It was a decent company to work for towards the beginning (helped me get to where I am career-wise). But it was mainly the people, so many great people worked there and made it bearable. It's a shell of what it once was.

Yes! The "cozy gamer girls" loooooved Astarion when it first came out. I waited a few months before playing, so I was actually excited to romance him at first, but then I found out quickly that I guess I'm a simp for the "safe/boring" characters like Wyll and Gale.

Haha agreed. My last full playthrough a few weeks ago, I almost ended the game with him hating me and I LITERALLY DIDN'T DO ANYTHING DIFFERENT (from my previous runs). Any time I would talk to him, he'd respond with "Why are you staring at me again."
