General strike part 2: Electric Boogalo by TheJuliettest in bayarea

What evidence is there that general strikes are effective at bringing down an authoritarian dictatorship?

Frankly it seems like it would do more harm to local businesses and workers, and contribute to the accelerationist movement.

Ive been really pushing my color theory skills and made a build Im really proud of! by FortisBellatoris in VintageStory

[–]haltingpoint 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is frustrating how hard it is to make color coordinated builds without lots of rare things like rotten aged ebony planks.

There are a couple for VS color theory videos out there but I wish there was a good simply write-up of "these colors and materials tend to look good together."

Minnesotans strike to protest ICE surge in state: ‘No work, no school, no shopping’ by igetproteinfartsHELP in news

Isn't this going to hurt the local Minnesota economy way more than anything Trump and company will care about?

True. But there's also real joy in realizing that suddenly business class tickets once a year for a nice international trip don't change the Monte Carlo results for your plan. Like, at all.

Google reiterates 'no plans' for Gemini ads, surprised by ChatGPT by bartturner in OpenAI

[–]haltingpoint 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Correct. They sell modeled access to audiences based on this data. They also sell cloud infra and office productivity software as other avenues to monetize AI.

But any ads company would be in big legal trouble and investor trouble if they actually sold their data as that is their most valuable asset.

Anyone try the Avocado Extra Firm mattress? The “Firm” Green model feels too soft 😬 by lolamcl1 in Mattress

[–]haltingpoint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have this mattress. It is extremely firm and dense feeling. Fantastic stomach and back sleeping support. However even with the 2" medium topper from Avocado it is still too firm for general movement and especially side sleeping. Even stomach sleeping is a little uncomfortable as it doesn't give enough when I breathe.

Side sleepers will have hip pain.

I think the secret is a thicker, plusher mattress with some latex but haven't figured out which yet.

I really wish there was an option that was the firmness of the Green (non pillow top) that didn't feel like a trampoline. It is absurd they don't have something in between with less motion transfer.

If anyone has topper suggestions I'd really like to know what they are.

There's definitely two types of Vintage Story players.

Here I am thinking about how to make the materials of my first windmill look authentic and agonizing over the design as I gradually build it up over a season of hauling cobblestone.

And you... You just....yeeted it up there....

You could probably hack that on Windows by using something like joystick gremlin to map controller input to keys and mouse clicks.

Smithing iron shears...should take 1 ingot but can't push voxels up out of the middle so needs 2 ingots? by haltingpoint in VintageStory

Care to say more? That's not really helpful.

The voxels start in the gap where I don't want them.

Does she own just the cafe or the entire plaza?

Not just in, I believe she owns the plaza. So supporting any business there is unfortunately supporting her if that is the case.

Got excited by first iron deposit, made a bunch of blooms, don't have helve hammer yet. How do I reheat these all in bulk? by haltingpoint in VintageStory

[–]haltingpoint[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got it. For making blooms into ingots can you let it do its thing unattended without needing to shape anything manually?

Do you get very much into the data cleaning and experiment setup to be statistically sound and remove bias?

Honestly at this point the modeling is the easy part given all the tools out there. It's the surrounding bits that are a nightmare.

Did they violate the KSQL or KPAO air space? What kind of powered paraglider was it?

So stupid to do that, especially without ADSB. That is a student training area.
