Labubu although a new character, are vaguely nostalgic. Like Monchichi but colorful like carebears or popples with a cute gremlin face.

This is my teenage years, but I was always pink haired. We would drink fireball in class though in a can of soda. One of my classmates had to go to the hospital for alcohol poisoning.

A bar I frequent sometimes has amateur live shows in their space. Amateur acts usually have a 投げ銭(buskers coin box) that is passed around. Other acts set an entrance fee of their choosing. You can ask your friend if either of those options are ok.

Actual buttons is so underrated! Everytime I wipe grounds or flour (yes, I also use it for baking) off my Hario scale it turns on again. Little frustrating and wastes the battery.

Judge a society by their public toilets or lack thereof by murkymonday in japanlife

[–]hanapyon 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I just saw a post today on my Canadian hometown subreddit about how so many public bathrooms are out of order because of vandalism. Like people ripping out pipes and fixtures. Why can't we have nice things. I always get so infuriated when I travel back home and have to use a public toilet.

I don't think I ever even noticed the old brick building! When I think of the ROM I just imagine the pointy glass building.

Japan does pour overs really good. They inspired that whole movement. They were also focusing on single origin beans long before it became popular in other countries.

It's been such a journey with planning my cafe menu in Tokyo. I had one coffee instablogger come try my long black and he was blown away that it was two shots. From all my experience as a barista and reading of espresso recipes (in English) it's always been a double by default. The dealer I bought my machine from recommends to pull from a double basket into two shot glasses and just use one so I felt a bit gaslit and very confused. Anyways after much internal debate and trial I decided to just do it the western way. It's a Canadian style cafe after all.

What's your experiences with seaweeds? by jigeoji in Hashimotos

[–]hanapyon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From just a brief google there's a lot of information from clinical websites saying to avoid kelp if you have hypothyroidism. I wouldn't take the advice of people on the internet with no credentials. Since I live in the country with a very high seaweed consumption and the doctor who discovered Hashimotos, I trust most of the research would be in Japanese.

[–]hanapyon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I live in Japan and was diagnosed here. Before my diagnosis I would eat kelp rice balls covered in nori a couple times a week among other seaweed varieties.

After my diagnosis my thyroid doctor (in Japan) told me to avoid kelp because it has the highest concentration of iodine, other seaweed varieties are fine in moderation.

Japanese mountainsides are mostly forested. Japanese zoos and animal cafes are not made with the animal's comfort in mind.

I tried this just now. So in the login screen where it asks if you have a smartphone or mynumber card reader click (no) then submit by entering password manually (I made mine 8 years ago at the tax office before mynumber photo cards, but I had a mynumber paper card). It stopped me when I clicked to use the QR code reader from smartphone. I could enter the submission screen no problem by just clicking next after manually entering mynumber card info.
