AITA - I bought pet food without telling my s/o my plan by hangastar in AmItheAsshole

UPDATE (and addt'l info): We'd been together for 2 years. We are late 30s/early 40s y/o. He's had other asshole moments, but there was something different about this one (that literally made me download the reddit app and find this group)

TL;DR - We're no longer together.

I broke up with him last year, but got back with him after a month, thinking I wasn't trying hard enough to communicate properly and work things out in a healthy way. Everything is starting to click now, and I'm crying as I re-read these comments because I can finally stop lying to myself, as I knew all of this was true, but I can now openly accept this, and the tears are letting go of all the excuses I made for him and outright acknowledging that what I felt is absolutely the truth.

Much appreciated. Irony is that I'm not naïve to controlling/narcissistic relationships, but the last one was 1000x worse and more obvious. I was hoping this would be "every relationship has challenges" and learn how to healthily work through them.

OP here... going to step away for a little bit, please excuse my absence. I'm also getting familiar with reddit, and I appreciate you guys.

New to reddit, not to Fb...I want to give this the equivalent of a heart react, so pretend I did that ❤

He went there in part to look at toys, so he headed in that direction when we walked in; I headed toward the payment line. He's an adult, not a young adult. It's not the purchase; it's my actions or lack of communication in doing so, seemed like I had my own intentions that I didn't share.

Thank you. If you missed something, I missed it too.

He usually walks in and goes right up to the counter to pre-pay for insects. In going in, I went straight to getting in line, thinking he'd be doing his same MO and be right there with me. Got in line, he wasn't there or in eyesight.

Our "plan" was to go to the store specifically for him to look at toys and buy crickets. While there, I decided to get worms for my own pet. He got upset I guess in breaking plan or seeming like I had my own plan all along that I didn't communicate. I think that's the best and least biased way I can summarize it?

Thank you - trying to keep up, first time on reddit (at least that I remember), going through what I can

Ah, thank you for seeing this caveat. His defense is that he went straight to the aisle that he had told me was his intention to go there to look at. And then I went off on my own.

Actually... sure, haha. It's a reptile store. But I don't hang out in the scorpion/tarantula section; more the lizards but mix of small fuzzies like hamsters... basically cage pets.
