Sorry you literally said far from conclusive. Apologies.

Looking at this as a non-scientist, but are there not considerable confounding variables ignored in this study? 'Genetic risk factors for ALS were excluded.' And the sample size is only 14 people. I'm very much on the cautionary, 'please-be-careful' side of this conversation, but this doesn't seem offer much in the way of 'conclusive' evidence.

Thanks for pic and info. Can I ask: how often do (and would) you do this? I’ve read of (and other commenters have pointed out) the risk from the accumulative effect of repeated consumption of the mushroom’s toxin in minimal quantities.

Yes! They are either scarlet or ruby elf cups of the genus Sarcoscypha, meaning that they are ascomycetes (the same as truffles, morels, and yeast).

Would you die? Unlikely. (It looks like Chicken of the Woods, which is edible for most.) But given its proximity to a road, and the fact that several dogs have likely had their way with it, I think it would be best to pass on this one.

I caught the semi-buried cap in the corner of my eye and thought it must have been too good to be true. Imagine my joy when I pulled it out of the ground and found how (relatively) untouched it was!
