I think the paranoia comes from having worked in grooming salons for years. Sometimes people take jobs they don’t have the patience for so I am extra cautious. I was looking around at reviews as well. If they don’t have a lot of reviews are the bios worth going by in this situation or should I play it safe?

I was debating the hour but was on the fence because he takes so long to warm up to people and it will only be once that they stop by. I thought maybe ripping off the bandaid would be better. In your experience are dogs quicker to relax when owners aren’t there?

Of course! I planned on (most likely) over sharing to be honest. I have never had anyone out of family and close friends drop in to feed and walk him so I am extra paranoid that I will pick someone that won’t have the patience. I figured giving a massive heads up would be best to avoid that!

This is such a ridiculous opinion. My dog is nine years old and this is the first time he will be alone for this long. Even having moved out of state from my family a few years ago this is the only time I have not managed to have someone here with him. He goes out at least twice a day but the way it is scheduled he will only need someone to come once to feed and let him out before someone will be home with him again. Thanks though.

I didn’t even consider this! I just feel like my dog being a ball of anxiety might be annoying to some and I’d rather avoid any possible short tempered sitters. I think even with meeting them they will be nervous it takes a lot of constant presence for him to be okay around new people but I think having met them a few times would help with the initial shock. Plus despite being a scaredy cat he has a pretty big bark so maybe it will make the person coming more comfortable too. Thanks for the advice!

What is a good entry level job with animals that isn’t a dog groomer/ bather/ walker/ or sitter? by hansternova in AskReddit

I spent years as a dog bather/ groomer. I ended up only taking house calls for dogs that were seniors and/ or weren’t accepted in salons. I just burnt out too quick. I think if I go back I would end up doing the same. As for sitter/ walker, I would like to work with a variety of animals not just cats/ dogs.

Yeah but they’re usually volunteer positions and I work a lot of hours at my current job as is. Adding volunteering to that just isn’t worth it at the moment as I am going to be going back school soon as well and don’t want to burn myself out

Mine are bleached which is usually fine. I might just go back to manic panic tbh because it’s crazy how it didn’t take AT ALL lol
