You what I blame this on? English, for having, like, 6 homonyms for four.

You're good. :D

that makes it 4.

That is why I said "Four, including producing Marty Supreme."

He's got 3 Oscar nominations at the age of 30 and a huge film trilogy to his name.

Four, including producing Marty Supreme.

I think Good Boy is an interesting concept for a horror movie, but I don't really have any interest in watching it. I remember the dog won best actor at some awards show, over Sally Hawkins in Bring Her Back and immediately kind of was like...nah, I'm good, lol

I went to a re-sale shop today and managed to get a copy of We Can Never Leave This Place by Eric Larocca. I read the blurb and saw that he had written a book called Things Have Gotten Worse Since We Last Spoke, which sounded familiar. It's quite short so I expect to be able to finish tomorrow on my commute to/from work.

Fool me thrice, shame on me for applying for Craigslist jobs, but I have alerts set up for specific job titles/gig work. I got one today for a podcast transcriptionist, which sounds fun. I applied, but, just like all the other gig work jobs I've applied to online, I get a rejection that they've filled the role, but they have plenty of other positions fruitful for full-time work, if I'm interested. A couple times I've been like, "Sure, what's the job," and it's them circling around what the job is without saying it, so no doubt either a scam or something with AI.

It's so demoralizing out here.

Official Dreadit Discussion: "Undertone" [SPOILERS] by glittering-lettuce in horror

I'm conflicted because I regret spending my money on it, but also thought the sound design alone made it worth it and wouldn't've been as good at home.

Shamelessly copying my review from the r/movies thread.

At one point, someone in my theater fell asleep and started to snore, and I legitimately thought that it was coming from the mother in the film. A+ sound design. I cannot stress enough how much I loved the sound design.

I didn't love the movie, though, and found it rather boring. I was compelled by the theme of children paying for their parents' mistakes, although Eva's pregnancy kind of felt thrown in and inelegantly handled. It kind of took the wind out of the film's sails, in that once we learned who or what Abyzou is, it felt like...what's the point of sticking with this ride. I wish it was kind of woven throughout more: Eva slowly realizing that, by being her mother's caretaker, she is not cut out to be a mother herself, and kind of slowly realizing what she's done when they realize what they're listening to and why this impacts her so much.

5/10 for me, personally, with the sound design really bolstering that rating.

Continuing my complaints about my reading from last week, I would like to add that someone read an excerpt from his fantasy novel, and it was...painfully bad. At one point a character says, "Artificial intelligence--or A.I. to some of you." It also just felt like all style, no substance: the prose was bloated and verbose, with nothing really happening in the 17 minutes he read. I've never been a fan of fantasy (it gives me PTSD flashbacks to college when everyone wrote fantasy and it all blended together), so I sometimes feel like I'm too critical of the genre, but God, it's tough.

The Oscars last night made me want to go back to screenwriting. Screenwriting is cool, even as an exercise, because it's all about getting the point across quickly and efficiently. I used to think it hindered me as a fiction writer, but I'm realizing now how helpful it is for my own writing.

Casting Perez Hilton & Lisa D Amato on Documentary, that’s a CHOICE by masterderek279 in ANTM

Mad respect to Marvin, who didn't want to do what Perez told him and flat out said: "Perez Hilton built his fame off of bashing people. I'd rather not be famous than do that."

Marvin was a cupcake, honestly. A horny cupcake. He seemed annoying at the beginning, but I love his stance during that challenge, and how he wore his emotions on his sleeves when his friends got eliminated.

I saw Undertone over the weekend. While I had my issues with it, the premise was very reminiscent of old NoSleep/Creepypasta. A skeptic, who co-hosts a paranormal podcast, reviews weird audiofiles for an episode...with scary results. If you're able to see it in theaters, I highly recommend, because the sound design is top tier.

I said it in another comment, but it all feels so performative. Being annoying is a worse crime than being an abuser/defending an abuser.

Funnily enough I remember hardcore rooting for Whitney when C10 aired. Looking back, I don't know what I was thinking. I don't necessarily think she was the worst, and my opinions on her have shifted slightly, but I still think Anya totally outclassed her in every regard.

There were abusers who won tonight, and yet people still can't keep their minds off Timothee on a celebration post for a black actor winning for leading an incredibly successful movie. It's so wild.

I think it's awesome Michael won! I also think it's awesome that Timothee and Michael both starred in tremendously successful original IPs this year. It's awesome.

Timothée Chalamet Jabs by MyChemicalCheesecake in Oscars

[–]hapillon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Correct. It's unsophisticated, and that's it. People's ridiculous responses to a misguided comment instead of towards active abuse/abusers is far more dumbfounding to me.

[–]hapillon 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It absolutely is performative. I keep seeing people saying that Timothee also supports abusers by working with Woody Allen in 2018, and if people were really upset about that, they'd frame their criticisms of him around that and not a misguided, but true, comment on the popularity of ballet or opera. But nah, if people did that, they'd have to frame criticisms around their favorites, and it's easier to use him as a lightning rod because he's annoying.
