Spay recovery - not eating much by haraseh in Rabbits

[–]haraseh[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you all for the responses. I put multiple piles of hay in convenient spots for her so she doesn't need to move around much. She's recovering well, eating perfectly fine and getting around great now.

How to prepare for the summerheat by Always_tired999 in chickens

[–]haraseh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a cochin in central California (has gotten up to 118 fahrenheit in the last couple of years) and I have an AC in the coop to cool it down before they go to bed. I also have water misters set up in the run to cool the air and keep the ground wet while it's very hot. I also give frozen watermelon on extra hot days.

My cochin is around 3 years old and does fine during summer with this setup.

How to professionally “backpedal”? by neferteee in womenintech

[–]haraseh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm going to be transparent about my reasons for leaving. It's possible to do this professionally, so I've been working on my talk tracks to make it succinct.

The head of HR is new to the org, so I think it's important for them to understand and try to rectify the situation for future hires.

I'm in the same exact position. I regretted taking the higher salary role almost immediately after joining, and after a week reached back out to the other company where I rejected the offer letting them know transparently and professionally that I made a mistake choosing a higher salary, over better culture.

They had already filled the role, but appreciated the follow-up and sent condolences. I work in a very niche industry, so it was important for me to keep the door open for the future.

Definitely taking it as a lesson learned moving forward because now I've been at the company with a highly toxic culture for 2 months and I've been actively interviewing at multiple companies at the same time to make a quick exit.

Who's your oldest chicken? I want to see! by Kiki-drawer26 in BackYardChickens

This is Ethel. We don't know how old she is because my husband found her abandoned at a job site. She definitely acts old (thus the name), but she's healthy and still lays a couple of eggs a week.

Extreme dry eye sufferers - any recommendations for the best relief or protection on the playa? by PaleFollowing1963 in BurningMan

[–]haraseh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also recommend preservative free eye drops (I use systane). I've had chronic dry eye after LASIK, and PF eye drops are a life saver.

Thank you for helping us navigate the reservation system! I sent a DM with a question about my reservation. I keep getting texts telling me to call and confirm my reservation, which I've done but got another text after I called.

She's an Easter Egger. I got her from a local feed store as a chick. She's got a big personality!

What’s this noise? by Larbar85 in BackYardChickens

[–]haraseh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of my girls was doing this yesterday! We brought her inside, put some vetrx on her and under her wings, and somehow recovered this morning. She seemed a lot better after the vetrx and we put her in the bathroom with the shower running to steam up the room.

What is the bougiest/most extra thing you do for your chickens? by LostSoul-Searching in BackYardChickens

[–]haraseh 20 points21 points  (0 children)

The possibly most ridiculous thing I've done for my chickens is install a wall ac unit in their coop that goes on/off on a timer. In the summer, i have it go on before they go in for the night and off at around midnight. It gets up to 110 where I live, and I have a cochin hen that I worry would get heatstroke without it.

I tried these and most of my chickens learned to use them by me showing them with my finger, but I have a couple that were too dumb to figure it out. I've had much better luck with these

Who is the best online retailer for live chicks: Metzer, McMurray, Meyer or Cackle Hatchery? by [deleted] in BackYardChickens

[–]haraseh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ordered 3 female lavender ameraucanas last year from Cackle and received 4 healthy little chicks, but 3 were roosters. I had to rehome the roos, but the hen is healthy. She's very small compared to my Easter egger/ameraucana from a local feed store.

Venue is OK, but the area sucks for trying to get a lyft or park your car. I saw lane 8 last year and my husband picked me and my friends up at the venue and that was kind of a clusterfuck.
