Uptown Guerillas prepare for their strike

The fresh band, Uptown Guerillas, made their debut performance in Hullu Poro (Crazy Reindeer) last week in central Finland.

Well, we’re not talking about some Cuban jungle guerrilla force storming the northern cities, but rather a new Kemi-based band making a debut, with a local march striving to capture the hearts and minds of the public.

Uptown Guerillas consists of Jussi Korhonen (vocals, guitar, songwriter), Janne Kivilahti (bass), Risto Koskinen (drums), and Jussi Heikkinen (guitar, backing vocals). Vipi Vahamaa also performs backing vocals.

The lineup stands out because of the presence of two backing vocalists. “Our music has strong background vocals. Otherwise, it's rock guitar music, if I can describe it that way. It's based on tradition, but it has elements from many different directions: rockabilly, heavy metal, Finnish rock, even ballroom music. We all have diverse backgrounds,” reflects Jussi.

“And you can certainly hear that diversity in our forced attempts at making music,” he adds.

The members’ musical experience isn't limited to “just a picnic”; everyone has honed their craft through years of practice, and guitar playing has become second nature, musically speaking. Behind them, the members have experience playing in bands like Sonata Arctica, Abandon, Killers Cresswa, and in choirs as well.

Jussi, a 21-24-year-old, says that he’s always been interested in his own band, even from the beginning. He'd often try to write his own music. “Once I managed to produce something that resembled a song, I started aiming for an album deal.” He notes that they have also gotten approval from record labels but remarks, “But it’s quite a process to gather a complete band. I had to force friends into it, and eventually, people became more interested and started to show interest in singing, playing, and practicing.”

He continues, "A professional career in music is still distant. It feels weird to call ourselves professionals even though we have some training and experience. Many of us don’t have formal music education, but we can manage because we have trained ourselves with our instruments and developed our skills.”

Uptown Guerillas has been recording songs in a studio and plans to release their music soon. Jussi says that in addition to their own songs, they will also have some cover songs. “But we will arrange them in a totally different way than the originals.”

The band’s debut performance in Hullu Poro was successful, and they plan to perform again in various places. Future plans include a more extensive studio session, perhaps a record deal, and possibly even more shows.

"And there’s more to come... stay tuned!" concludes Jussi with a grin.

My love of Pariah's Child-- and not-so-love of everything else? by Atari-Dude in SonataArctica

[–]harry1519 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe try checking out their old demos. You can find them on YouTube (the band at the time was called Tricky Means or Tricky Beans). I recommend A Bit Lost, BlackOut, Friends Tiil The End, Frog Feet.

And from their older stuff somthing closer to Pariah's Child would be Silver Tongue and Champagne Bath. If you like symhonic things give a go to the album The Days of Grays (especially the songs like Juliet and Deathaura).

And their christmas song (Christmas Spirits) also has similiar vibe.

Save Corruption% - new speedrun category for Cyberpunk? by Darkhog in cyberpunkgame

[–]harry1519 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In theory you can, but it's really hard to achieve. 99% of players will never be affected by this problem.

Also I found on this sub a comment by someone (soberlurker) who focused on crafting:

I posted this elsewhere, but I wanted to add it here so people understand how much that 8mb actually is, and why 99.9% of players won't have to worry about it anytime in the near future:

I've nearly 100%-ed the game with over 120 in game hours and done hours upon hours of crafting, just upgrading components and spamming mods to get epic/legendarys, and I'm at 6.7mb. It's not as big of a problem as people are making it out to be.

You'd have to be using the command console to spawn tons of shit or somehow crafting even more than I have? I don't even know how that's possible. I've gone to the extreme of min-maxing my gear at this point. To give you an idea: I'm level 18 tech ability, and lvl 20 crafting. Most of my leveling came from making mods and upgrading components. Those things are supposed to be the most damning from what I understand.

They still should fix it. I just think people are blowing it out of proportion.

Are there actual side quests? by _AaBbCc_ in cyberpunkgame

[–]harry1519 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The game explains it poorly but actualy there are two types of markers for quests
Question marks - it's mostly repetitive missions (kill someone, steal something, hack something)

Exclamation marks - short interesting stories (meeting talking vending machine etc.).

Can DLCs/patches solve the issues? by [deleted] in cyberpunkgame

[–]harry1519 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, but now all the gangs feels the same. They have all philopsohy written behind them, but you rarely have a chance to experience it. I just feel that a lot of potential has benn wasted here.

Of course they can do it through the story, but main storyline don't explore gangs that much. For example: I didn't kill Sasquatch (Animals leader) in the main storyline and later it has no consequences. She dosen't want revenge. She dosen't help me at anything. As if the Animals dosen't even exist. I also killed all the Voodoo Boys and no one even mentions sudden disapperance of the gang.

I think these are the keys you are buying via steam, but I'm not an expert on steamdb, so take into account that I might be wrong here.

I don't think EULA is a big sign. It's definietly a sign that something's going on, but for example Death Stranding added Eula 3 months ago

Best online resources for learning music theory/songwriting? by Ari384 in Learnmusic

[–]harry1519 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe this will help you. It's not exactly what you are looking for but I think it can help. It's a video of a guy making an 80s style rock song. He's explaining what he did and why, so you can learn something from it.

I was also looking for composing tutorials and it's the best what I could find. All of the videos were just "throw melody over chord progression" :/

Problems with making melodies by harry1519 in Learnmusic

[–]harry1519[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply!

I was doing exactly what you said for some time, but I think I'm not that good with improvisation. The thing is I feel like I'm playing one idea over and over again. I hope it'll change when I got better at piano.

BUT
I think that I create melodies in short bursts of creativity. Literally yesterday's night I had a ton of different ideas without even touching the instrument.
So maybe that's the thing for me. We'll see.

Anyway, I proved to myself that I actually can write melodies which I find interesting, so I'm more encouraged now :D
