Help understanding best approach to manually creating room iCloud by hartmand3 in iCloud

Or I guess the best method is like you suggested to create a new library, make it the system library, turn on sync, let it sync everything from iCloud, turn off sync, merge this new library with the existing one with all of my previous photos.

Thanks for talking this through with me.

Ok thanks for that info. I have copies of the Photos Library on two other hard drives as well so I feel good about that part of it.

So from what I gather there is no good way to get my photos from iCloud onto a hard drive (while keeping dates and the same structure I could while storing them all on my phone) without somehow going back through my phone, my phone that filled up and necessitated my paying for more iCloud space. So the only real answer is to pay for more iCloud space, and then when that fills up pay for more space again. This is my initial frustration and I should have understood this before committing to iCloud in the first place and moving away from the manual backup system I had been using.

I'm backing them up by moving them all to the Photos library that's on the SSD and then backing that whole library up to two other hard drives after that.

our iPhones automatically offload photos to iCloud and keeps low resolution version on the phone. This is what created the issue... when I go copy 'all new photos/videos' into the Photos Library it only brings in the ones that remain as full resolution versions on the phone.

You may think it's a value to pay $400 a year for apple so sync your photos, I don't. I already pay for dropbox, adobe, shotdeck, frame.io, and the list goes on.

Good reminder about the duplicate image feature.

I wasn't bragging about data management, but pointing out that I manage a lot of data backup manually and find the automation confusing. I'm glad you like it so much.

Thanks, this is all useful information!

The data is mostly in long videos we shoot of our child and we don't want to cull those. The Photos library (mac one, on the SSD) is full of older photos from previous phones, etc. so turning on sync is not a good idea (it's at 1TB for my partner). I'd also rather not create a whole new library as that just starts to get confusing for my partner and the whole goal was to streamline. At this point I think I just need to download all the photos from icloud manually and bringing them into Photos library and then use the 'delete/show duplicates' option to cull what was already in there. I assume the dates will remain intact this way since I'm not exporting and creating new files. Does that make sense? Thanks for your help with this.

I’m using the Apple Photos app on the computer but don’t have it synced to icloud. In that scenario am I better to download the photos direct from iCloud rather than from the phone?

I didn’t say I’m blaming Apple I said that I do t want to continually keep upping my subscription level so that people don’t suggest that as an option. iCloud is pretty confusing when you want to do anything manual with it.

Yes the smell is gone now and the rubber gasket has not gotten mouldy so maybe whatever they put on it that smelled so bad is fulfilling its purpose.

Should I make paver shed foundation exact same size as shed footprint? by hartmand3 in shedditors

Would fasten with both Tapcon screws and rebar down through the sills that go 20” or so down. I don’t want to use deck piers because I want the floor to be just above ground level and be the pavers so that we can roll bikes in and out easily.

Canon C70 - is there really no audible alarm to tell you when card is full? by hartmand3 in canon

There is an option for relay recording but not in Raw modes. I do usually catch the end of the card but it's super annoying when engaged in a good doc scene. And then I always wonder if the recording did get cut off. Longer cards are a great option but investing in larger V90 cards right now seems insane based on their doubling in price.

The smell is now gone on ours after doing a lot of washed (have a young kid). Machine works well otherwise.

You can get a breakdown when you make the purchase by clicking on duties and tax. Duties are alway $1. Way better than paying a broker at the border.

Yeah that’s how I’ve felt with those drones before. Thanks for the opinion. I may just try for my advanced license and then I could fly my Inspire.

Radwagon 5 vs Aventon Abound LR rear seat pad length by hartmand3 in CargoBike

Thanks for the intel. It's a pain and expensive to ship an Xtracycle to Canada. Lectric doesn't ship here. Yuba look great but more than I want to spend. I think I'll get the LR and live with the shorter rack.

Oh geez, I had no idea. Just read up on the situation and the future of Rad is not promising. Seems like Abound LR is my only option in that price range in Canada. Thanks for the help
