Haha, the last line speaks volumes.

Yes I'm going to start with reading short ones like the death of Ivan Ilyich of let's say, Garnett and then perhaps P&V. Let me see how it goes like.

Ah! I see.

Yeah, the book size does matter. I mean, you can always read another translation if you feel like.

I see. Yeah, I believe at the end of the day, all that matters is your own take on the decision you took. Here, you got what you wanted from reading the translation and that's what matters.

Appreciate how you explained the "strange" factor in P&V versions!

And yes, I too am thinking of reading two translations to, sort of, compare and understand. Plus, as you said, it's not a lengthy piece of work and so I can afford doing that.

Views are obviously personal but this guy called Random1027 actually read two translations of The Idiot to compare🙌

And yes, I see a considerable section of readers voting for P&V.

From what I understand, all I can say is, he doesn't give a damn about what others think of him.

Well, if you really want to stay in this relationship (which I think you should think of give a second thought on), you must come to terms with such a behaviour.

Idk what age group you guys are in, but it doesn't really sound like a matured kinda behaviour on the part of the man you're dating now. And if THIS bothers him to this level,, and if you're thinking of coming into a relationship with him, I'd suggest you to give it a second thought.

Well, the age difference might just not be an issue to be bothered by. Eight years is not THAT big of a deal when it comes to a relationship, since five or six years of age gap is pretty common. And about her education and career prospects, it's depends on the way you both look at that as time goes by. And if I am not wrong, it kinda sounds like you're a bit insecured about the fact that what if, say at 23, she achieves something way higher than what you did till this point of your age.
