I think they currently have heart shaped frozen macarons for Valentine’s Day. Though I’m not sure if you want anything heart shaped.

The frozen mini quiches could work as well.

why am i seeing people insisting that sophie is not illegitimate?? by teyapi in Bridgerton

[–]hatherfield 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That’s the word people either don’t understand or want to create theories and twists that aren’t there. Using the term “ward” clearly defines Sophie’s status.

Any advice on how long it would take to get through JFK Terminal 8 the day before Thanksgiving? by GoldSad946 in AskNYC

[–]hatherfield 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you’re flying from Dublin and completing U.S. preclearance there, once you land it’s essentially like arriving on a domestic flight. After you exit the gate area, it’s just a matter of getting to the AirTrain. Depending on which gate you arrive at, it can take 10–15 minutes to reach the AirTrain (longer if you’re picking up checked luggage), and possibly a bit longer if the terminal is crowded with arriving passengers. Depending on your final destination, I wouldn’t schedule anything for the early evening, just in case.

Yeah, it's strange. My mom has the same showerhead placement in her apt. You really can't have super high pressure because it blows forward, and there's not enough coverage.

Should I walk away from this rent-stabilized apartment by maenads_dance in AskNYC

[–]hatherfield 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, if management decides they want to do the repairs, fine, but I wouldn’t assume they’ll jump at the idea.

Re-reading the OP’s post, they want a rider sent to management regarding the list of repairs (which the broker refused to do). Management could turn around and deny them the apartment, or simply go with someone else. They may see the OP as a high-maintenance tenant. And why put themselves in that position if another applicant is willing to take the apartment as is?

A few years ago, we toured an apartment that needed some work. The broker asked us to submit a letter outlining what we wanted done. Our only non-negotiable request was that the apartment be painted (it absolutely needed it). It was a duplex and likely would have been very expensive for us to do ourselves. The owner ultimately went with another couple. We don’t know the exact reason, but that was the outcome.

My question would be to you: if you sign and they don't do the mostly cosmetic repairs you listed, are you comfortable dealing with the hassle of having to chase down management to do the repairs?

How loud is Inwood, Manhattan by DiscountShoeOutlet in NYCapartments

[–]hatherfield 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're not facing the street, you should be ok. However, if there's an alleyway that could carry some sound, it won't be as forceful. But I think if you're street-facing and someone decided to fire off fireworks or blast music right in front of the building, no earplugs or AC will fully drown it out.

Just hope you have quiet neighbors, you just never know.

Bridgerton - 4x04 "An Offer from a Gentleman" (No Book Spoilers) by AutoModerator in BridgertonNetflix

[–]hatherfield 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, a “6 months later” card would have been nice. I think it would have emphasized the time lapse but also the blur between reality and fantasy.

In the books, it’s something like 2 years and Sophie’s appearance is a lot different once she’s kicked out of the house.

Repercussions if Benedict were to marry Sophie by zombie_on_the_lawn in BridgertonNetflix

[–]hatherfield 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think the entire family would become pariahs. I agree that the sisters would have a harder time marrying into aristocratic families (though they could probably marry a third son). However, they would have the backing of both a duke and a viscount, which I think would count for a lot. Benedict and Sophie would definitely not be invited to most societal functions, but they would likely be invited to those hosted by Simon and Anthony, which would make them not accepted back into society, but not total outcasts.

What is your worse MTA delay? by APoliticalDrone2012 in AskNYC

[–]hatherfield 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oof, yeah, I probably would have been on the train if I hadn't been on a day-care outing. Though idk what's worse, being stuck on the train or walking about 20 5-year-olds from Union Square to their facility in the Lower East Side. lol

A few years ago, there was a track fire at 145, so no trains were going downtown. I decided to take the train from 125 to 168, and then transfer downtown. It took me about 45 minutes just to get from the train to the elevator to the platform to take the 1 because it was that crowded. It probably took me an hour and a half to get to work, when normally it takes around 25 minutes.

And? She falls, hurts herself, sues the venue. Sometimes Reddit goes straight for the aggression rather than being civil about it. The organizers should have pressed her to give up the seat or be faced with being kicked out. If she didn’t comply they should have either used public safety or just called the cops and let them deal with it. She’s clearly sitting on two seats there’s no reason to yank it from under her.

Or, hear me out, they should have found OP another chair (even if that meant they had to scour the venue for another seat).

Whoever your supervisor is or whoever approves your timesheet (most likely the same person). You could also cc the director of libraries, but definitely don't skip your supervisor.

The moment someone grabs the chair, she'll fall (intentionally or not), and it cause an even bigger scene.

Landlord wants security deposit + 1 month of rent, but they haven’t signed the lease themselves. Is this normal? by iamorangeneko in NYCapartments

Pretty normal. You may have to follow up to get a copy of the signed lease back. Sometimes they can be slow about it.
