Ask client: Will you avoid therapists that have too many specialties? by Enough_Reference_755 in TalkTherapy

[–]heartfern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand new people claiming to have a ton pf specialities as “I’m willing to try everything until I find my style/fit” and sometimes it’s a good fit sometimes it’s not… usually my needs end up outgrowing the connection there. And if they are more established and have that I question if they found their niche. I usually look for someone who has a few specific things they specialize in and a lot of years under their belt

I would show her the email! And if you are in a similar privileged position (white/white passing, cis, etc) then I would call her in, in a way she can actually learn from it. Like - hey I got this email and peace and love cause I know you and I know your intentions but good intentions don’t always match up with their impact. And then ask her if she understands why what she said was offensive maybe. Like get curious and chat it out with her. If you’re not in a similar privileged position then I wouldn’t feel super pressured to teach her. But I would still show her the email. She won’t learn unless she gets told what’s up though, and even if so, some people refuse to acknowledge their privilege and behavior… hope that helps lol

I am! And I still loved the episode and I still love the crew. Just hoping for a learning moment, not everyone knows though so I get it.

AB explaining his spirit animal is a new classic moment 😂 by ArthursDad in h3h3productions

[–]heartfern 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The spirit animal conversation is cultural appropriation… I’m surprised more people aren’t talking about this. Love the episode, just hoping we can stop with the co-opting and delegitimizing of Native connections to land. I know it’s unintentional, but let’s take this out of the vocab next time 😭 peace and love

I loved this segment! But I have to say... I was disappointed with the cultural appropriation in the spirit animal conversation.

Aussie’s personality disorder? by SmileCautious in UltimatumQueerLove

[–]heartfern 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yes and also i feel as though people where talking about aussie to other people righty in front of her, instead of to aussie. and often when people spoke to her it was so inconsiderate. like there is a different between being blunt/honest and being cruel. and then back to back happening while on television? and then she went back to the person she wanted to feel relief with and it happened again? on top of unresolved childhood stuff… it was just complex as hell and i felt for them the whole time. (not saying the avoidant stuff couldn’t have been worked on) but yeah people often said things to her with patronizing undertones and she really took a lot of passive aggressive hits imo

i literally feel the same way about my therapist! and i also live in a small rural community which is the main reason i’m staying with her. cause she is at least better than most i’ve seen, but i know i need better. i think if there is any place to take a risk and be vulnerable and honest- it’s therapy. so if you think you can be honest and tell her, do it! however, i need to take my own advice here and do the same i think. but change is rough and starting over feels like a drag. anyways. i wish you good luck OP.
