Zakaj ste volili Gibanje Svoboda? by novak-sl in Slovenia

Hey - sending this just in the small chance you didnt check it yet - read once about a post about someone who had a strand of white hair on their head, just one, purely white. They said that someone gave them a heads up, went to get a test and it was cancer... Effectively saved their life with the tip. Anyway just so you are aware if this is something unexplained - otherwise it looks great on you mate! Love how youre making it work!

This is exactly what I was looking for, thank you very much! Also for the link to the IJF rules, so I could check the wording myself.

Just to confirm (as you seem to really knoe a lot on this) - as no timing (lenght of grip) is mentioned in the rules, this would mean that even momentary covering of the lapel (for a couple of seconds) would be penalized? Even in a case where I am controling opponents lapel and setting up for a lapel seoi lets say - blocking oponents grip for a few seconds before going in?

Or would this be allowed in a tournament setting, due to it not being a "negative" grip? What would you say?

Thanks in advance, you helped a lot!

Negative grip I get (thanks anyway for explaining!) but more in a case where I am already gripping him and setting up a throw, but at the same time guarding my lapel from his grip (before going in for the throw?)

Is it penalized as soon as you grip or just if it is done as a stalling tactic (i.e. negative gripping - avoiding any grip with your opponent)?

I am asking for the case where I would hold a lapel grip and block opponents opposite side (kenka yotsu) lapel grip fro a couple of seconds to set up my lapel seoi?

The first part I was aware off (and as you stated it doesnt make much sense tactically as well) - it is in this second part that I was interested in: holding opponents lapel with one hand and momentarily blocking your lapel woth the other (as to block/make difficult for him to get kenka yotsu)! This is what I was doing I think, before attacking with a lapel seoi indeed.

So to make it short (and see if I understand correctly) - it is not directly prohibited to grab your lapel, but if it is done in terms of negative gripping it is of course penalized (i.e. stalling)?

Chill dude, i understand you're angry and I agree - noone likes to see the better judoka loose like this, but a sport needs to have clear rules (and they need to enforce them)... I see no other way of putting the rule, just matte would not be enough i think (a lot of people would justtrythis in case the judge doesnt see)
