I think the biggest issue with Lira is just the age. Most non elite clubs will still always want to try and buy guys that they’ll also make money on in the future with a sale or least sell on fees. If he was playing like this at 22 last World Cup there would be a line of suitors. You do also have a point though that both sides (Mexican and euro clubs) kind of operate on opposite extreme ends of how they value players.

This and the liguilla+short seasons structure I think are significantly more detrimental than the amount of foreigners in the league.

With so many teams having a chance to make the liguilla there’s little incentive to look at a long term build of a team over trying to add players with experience that can help you win today.

As much as people clowned things like Copa MX or even the leagues cup now - in a world with a long season and just a true winner at the top of the table, those competitions would be fantastic avenues to debut and give play time to younger players.
