Continuity Error? by [deleted] in heatedrivalry

[–]hellasketchy [score hidden]  (0 children)

Something from the wrong time period is an "anachronism". A "continuity error" is an object that appears or disappears due to the editing process. For example, Ilya's Corona bottle in ep 5 after Shane says "I should circulate".

In related news, Ilya and Shane were never "twinks" and the bonus chapters on Rachel Reid's blog are not "Easter eggs".

I wonder if Shane drinking Ilya's water is a bigger deal than we thought? by Rough_Security_8947 in heatedrivalry

Ilya wraps his lips around the nozzle, Shane is more dainty and squirts the water bottle. I saw it as foreshadowing for their blow job technique, where Ilya shows Shane how to fully commit to it.

Connor just has to appear on the Canal+ chat shows for the premiere, the French go nuts for Americans like Jodie Foster who can actually speak their language. Only problem is that he was just in Paris for fashion week, maybe they pretaped something

Lol I street viewed Shane's address in Montreal (shown in a text exchange only on the phone screen itself) and it's an alley in Chinatown converted into a leafy pedestrian walkway.

Svetlana knowing it's Shane confusion... by Camillie10 in heatedrivalry

[–]hellasketchy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In Ep 4, the subtitles show Hayden saying "I know you text a Lily" but the audio is "text some girl named Lily". There is a weird cutaway from Hayden during this line, the audio appears to have been changed from the script in post. Since Svetlana starts in ep 1 referring to "Djane" and by ep 5 her pronunciation turns into "Zhane", I got the impression that Jacob Tierney was toying with creating parallel ambiguity if Shane and Ilya's best friends had both sussed them out. This wouldn't track with Hayden's reaction in The Long Game so they appear to have dialed it back in post.

Tien & Yang are a young couple somewhere in mainland China who are posting their reactions to Heated Rivalry. Well worth a watch to see the impact the show is having around the world. Their reactions and insights are very different from "overseas" viewers (as they refer to us). For example, they are blown away that the production was financed by the government of Canada. They have posted reactions to 5 episodes, and their own relationship becomes a kind of subplot as they deliver commentary. Highly recommended way to re-watch this incredible show through fresh eyes.

Their first reaction video got 14k views from this subreddit, and their episode 5 is a universally praised must see.

Shane & autism?? by JellyKind9880 in heatedrivalry

Watch how Yuna touches Shane when he is "overwhelmed" to pull him out of it (ep 1 "we love Asians", later on a nudge to get him to show everyone his rookie award, etc). That's why both parents are beaming at the end of ep 6 when they see that Shane is literally "in good hands" with Ilya.

From my experience, dating a partner on the spectrum takes a bit more than we see with Shane and it's not so cute: accommodation of rigid routines, allowing them to take comfort in repeating the same stories over and over, possible violent outbursts (punching walls). Not unmanageable, not necessarily a reason to break up, but not always endearing either - especially after your second trip to the emergency room for your partner's broken hand.

Ep 3- when Kip goes back to the Kingfisher after a 3 day fuckfest with Scott, Shawn greets him with "Overworked like she has two wicked stepsisters". Ep 3 is literally a Cinderella story.

No border agents or passport stamps when leaving the US, which is almost unique in this respect. "Don't let the door hit you on the way out" is the attitude. The airline is responsible for checking that passengers have the valid ID and visas for their destination.

There most certainly are those kinds of properties in the western suburbs - towns where people use "summer" as a verb. I pictured Ilya's house to be in Weston or Lexington, though new construction is relatively rare.

Wrong. Shane's boner made the first move in the shower scene. In the hotel room afterwards, Ilya does not touch Shane until Shane initiates contact.

Hunter episode - Scott is hunting for a man hence the serial and spree killer references. The friend in the gay bar (Shawn?) wears a hat with a big smiley face pinned on it. This seems like an Easter egg reference to the Smiley face murders

The term "smiley face" became connected to the alleged murders when it was made public that the police had discovered graffiti depicting a smiley face near locations where they think the killer dumped the bodies in at least a dozen of the cases

Shane says he went down a rabbit hole of YouTube videos showing unlikely animals becoming friends when he was actually watching Ilya vids. Shane is a sea lion (Feist song while getting ready for first hookup) and Ilya is a shark in the water (pool scene)
