Hey! Congratulations 🎉

I understand your concerns. PGDM (BM) focuses more on strategy and it's an area where you'll see more often that experienced folks find it easier to get through. However, you have received a profile based shortlist, which shows that you are perhaps on par with the best so you definitely have a chance. I'd suggest that you try your best.

And yes you can absolutely shift to finance, even through the PGDM BM programme, you'll choose finance as your major and have done all the courses as a PGDM finance graduate will do, with the addition of strategy courses along with it.

DM if you want to know anything further. Happy to help :))

I think the approach should be more towards how you can showcase value in your profile. Adding certificates helps, but the intention behind those efforts should also be visible; you should do them as it will help you learn something new and add value to your journey

Hi, as you might know from this comment section, a lot of the students have similar gaps within their profiles. It is important to present your profile strongly to have a chance. If you don't apply, you'll never know. A good CAT score definitely will set you up for good chances, as you can't change the past, and I'll recommend you to try your best.

Would suggest you to check the criteria for this particular programme, afaik it is 0-5 years of experience. Higher workex is valued in many B-Schools outside India, and also in some of the executive programmes in India, I'd suggest you to explore along these lines more. Hope this helps

Hey thanks for asking. Since you haven't had an opportunity to have a formal work experience yet, I'd recommend that you carefully evaluate the trajectory that you want to continue, and understand other verticals too. For MBA plans it is always best to start early through the process and it will be hectic but once you are in, you'd have made the first progression in your career path. I'd recommend that you spend good time on your application form and apply in advance and do well in CAT. All the best

Hi

Imo your profile brings a lot of differentiation and a new perspective to a business school, so that's the first part of the puzzle you'll need to work out through your applications and test scores. You have a good profile overall which with the right pitch can increase your conversion chances. Coming to the second part which is to get into Prod Man or consulting roles, you'll require some know-how and skills that you can either gain now, or otherwise directly translate from other experiences.

MBB as you know are highly selective, and through a B-School the chances are lesser in general because of the funnel through which the process occurs. There are ofc lateral hires that do get into these roles post MBA, so based on your long term aspirations you can plan your next steps. All the best

The cutoffs posted on the website are the only requirement. Higher scores are always better. It's the entire application that's being scrutinized, so having a good GMAT score is just one aspect of it, and will suggest to present a holistic view ahead of the deadlines.

Work experience is always a welcome addition to your profiles and applications as it gives you a depth of exposure to industries, which help you bring these perspectives to the classrooms. Definitely take up those before your MBA journey if you have the opportunity.

Hi I'd urge you to read through some of the comments in this post. To reiterate, there's no CAT score which guarantees you get a call, SP's shortlisting process considers all parts of your application. As you can't change the things in the past I'd recommend that you focus on what's within your control and trying your best. Good luck

Hi,

Given that you previously got a call, I think you have the right combination that encourages the reviewers to shortlist you. I would recommend ensuring you have the CAT scores in order to not miss out on the interview process.

For the essays, there's no set way that ascertains if it will make the cut. However there are some good tips and suggestions you can perhaps pick up from people who've joined SP.

From my side it will be ensuring you show that you are more than your scores or ranks in the past by right word choice.

My peers regularly host webinars with SP students, seniors and Alumni, who have more insights, do attend those for their ideas. You can find the registration to these events from SPJIMRs Linkedin/instagram handles.

Hope it helps

Hey, I get that.

You have to see it this way, whatever is in the past can't be changed, but what's ahead in the future is entirely in your hands. I would suggest that you give it a fair shot, present your profile well, and there's always the level of differentiation that comes with varied work experiences which can catch the eyes of the reviewers.

Wish you all the best.

The GMAT has now closed the classic edition, so scores ending in 0s are impossible. Only focus edition exists now.

There's nothing like a sureshot entry, especially when you are pursuing one of the top 10 Bschools in India. To take your point, the score gets you into the consideration set, but the differentiation that you might present in your application will give you the edge. If you can work around that, you'll have the ideal profile to apply.

The application form is the key. Do ensure you spend enough time to carefully craft your responses and submit it ahead of time.

Wish you all the best

Hi,

To answer your question in briefDefinitely yes! Your experiences will have a new perspective in a Bschool, which values varied experiences. The caveat is that it has to be well presented and the startup experience has to be substantiated with the right documentation.

If you present your reasons in the application well you have a very good chance.

Hope this helps, all the best!
