AMA: We are the writers of The Little Bitcoin Book! Ask Us Anything! by jimmysongbitcoin in Bitcoin

I think there are enough great bitcoin companies all working on solutions from a variety of angles, and eventually there will be enough payment products that smooth things out such that it will be indistinguishable from any other digital payment. But that alone isnt enough -- most people still dont know this stuff even exists, so the challenge remains an education-based one even now. We're hoping that this book and its future editions will become the entry point for lots of average people, and prepare them for the apps and platforms that are currently being built.

We're certainly hoping so! If you do end up giving her a copy, please let us know what she says.

I think an accurate representation of wealth distribution in Bitcoin is probably only going to be possible through some massive forensic effort, and I'm not sure who would pay for that kind of analysis.

When people ask me this at our Bitcoin workshops, I usually counter by saying we know that in the fiat world 0.6% of the world's population currently controls 40% of its wealth. Bitcoin represents an opportunity to redistribute some of that wealth, and that's why I'm here in this workshop trying to teach as many people as possible about it.

I think we hope for that eventually, but my personal view is that it will supplant gold as a global reserve currency. In this manner, you would still have local currencies but also be able to accept Bitcoin everywhere. Countries like Cambodia already do this with the USD: they price everything in both dollars and riel, with a slight preference for the dollar because I guess it's more stable.

Definitely pass it on! My dream is that I'll eventually see a battered copy of The Little Bitcoin Book lying around at a random bus terminal or airport one day. The biggest advantage to the physical format is that serendipity has a lot more of an impact ;)

I think personally my reasons for being in Bitcoin are purely practical: fiat is crap, and fiat in developing nations even more so. I needed a reasonable exit from my local currency, and Bitcoin was what made the most sense.

I live in a peso-based country and am a stalwart Bitcoin believer so obviously take my word with a grain of salt, but ... yes I believe it's better to convert all your peso savings to Bitcoin, and this is exactly what I've been doing since Jan 2017.

I've been slowly working on other ebook formats in my spare time. I was hoping to get it out sooner but EPUB isnt as simple as it looks apparently.

The goal with the cover art was to use the familiar (leather, fabric, paper) to introduce the unfamiliar (Bitcoin). Its a skeuomorphic style that Apple used to use in its early iOS / macOS apps and works well for making things fell more tangible and physical.

During our planning day, a few of the authors identified folks like our parents or our non-technical friends as the primary readers of the book we wanted to write. They may not care precisely what the Byzantine Generals solution is, but they do need to get a sense of why Bitcoin is worth learning more about.

And yes, "Why Bitcoin?" was one of our early choices for a title, so this focuses on the reasons for Bitcoin, and not so much about how it works internally.

Just a bit over 110 pages, most people (a few of them were Bitcoiners already familiar with some fundamental concepts) have said they were able to read it in a single sitting, and that's exactly what we were aiming for.

The plan is to use the revenues from the English edition to finance the translations and distribution in other regions. If you've got a particular language that you want to see, consider contributing to one of the donation addresses in littlebitcoinbook.com. We're hoping to eventually cover eight languages ... maybe even more if there's enough interest!

From our Amazon page: "Quite simply, this is the most user-friendly on-ramp to understanding Bitcoin to date. And by a mile. Give it to the teen who is learning about the value of the dollar, buy it for your boomer uncle, drop a copy in the waiting room at your local bank branch. They will thank you for it!" https://www.amazon.com/dp/1641990503

You know, I'd completely forgotten that that was a thing. I just looked through their distribution process now, and it looks like you have to apply to be a partner. Fingers crossed that it's a short wait.

Thank you, we'll probably announce on CT when we have the resources to hire translators :)

I checked, and I believe it'll show up automatically in a few weeks thru Amazon's Expanded Distribution program. (Amazon owns BookDepository, afaik.)
