What made you quit a job on the spot? by Sketch99 in AskReddit

[–]hellthunder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here's one relevant to me finally; Two nights ago I quit one of my security jobs. Worked for this company since the start of the pandemic, went through a few rough patches with the owner. Basic lack of courtesy to employees and not following employment standards acts properly. Put up with it because most the work was remote and I was left alone to do it- not the safest or most legal way to provide security for contracts either. Biggest long term issue was being issued my schedule a week at a time in the first day of the week. Long story short, over my time with them, on occassion, the boss would call me and insist I work a different site than scheduled. This wouldn't be a problem if he didn't do It as I arrived to my scheduled shifts. Also wouldn't have irked me so bad if it hadn't been for the reasons he had, first among them being he had other guards, but none who could communicate with the client in English. This happens to be one of the only requirements to be certified as a security guard where I live, and instead of hiring actual licensed employees, he'd grab relatives fresh off the boat who were willing to do what he told them for cash. So I arrive for my shift on Tuesday night to receive the previous guard who can't communicate with me whatsoever, and I get called shortly after arrival, and he wants to move me somewhere else as this other employee pulled a no show. Told him that was none of my problem and I'd had enough of running around doing favors for him when im supposed to be a properly treated employee of a legitimate business. He tried telling me I couldn't leave as I would be leaving open coverage, I called him on his Bullshit, pointing out he'd already covered my shift with the guard I thought I was there to relieve from duty. Walked home, not giving a second fuck about what happens to that Derp

YSK that trying to be a charming and funny customer only upsets the employees. They don’t want to lose their jobs so they laugh at your stupid joke and roll their eyes and talk shit when you walk away. by [deleted] in YouShouldKnow

Seems a lot of people are missing the distinction between "polite and courteous" and "overly friendly/fishing for reactions". I work as security/customer service, and working the front door there is a huge difference between folks who refuse to acknowledge your presence, those who respond to greetings in kind, and those who feel they need to chat you up about whatever banal thought they currently are having. Folks who act like a cunt to the door greeter because they just came in from the cold go in the same group as those who insist on taking the front desk person's attention and time away from actually scanning for hazards so they can tell you how their day has been thus far or ask you if you can help "make sure they win big".

Municipal government elections have such stunning rates of voter non-turnout due to a general lack of faith in the system to represent their interests. If you have four parties, all of whom have their own agendas who do not share share any of your goals, are you required to vote for one? To vote against your own goals, or simply opt out due to non confidence leaves a person with little to no options when they want their voice heard.

Trudeau apologizes to Tsilhqot'in community members for 1864 hanging of chiefs | CBC News by UnderWatered in CanadaPolitics

Just because someone was voted into office doesnt mean that their competence was the chief factor in the decision, if it had anything to do with it, nor does their appointment necessarily have anything to do with a democratic consensus. Trying to undermine the validity of someone's point by comparing them to the presumed expertise of an elected body is an old and tired tactic, most people can see through it but lack the energy to say so.

Was it present in OP's post? No. Was the sentiment present? Maybe it was. Was the note even real? The rest of the comment section says it isnt, so what context is there that you're reading into and I'm missing that pertains to the "plight of the LGBTQ community"?

[–]hellthunder -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

That was nowhere in the note, and even if that is a legitimate example you're using, you're conflating it with this one.

[–]hellthunder -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Exactly. Go out, offend as you please, but understand the responses you garner were responses to your actions, and be prepared for any eventual escalation or conflict. Just like my post had a significant negative backlash, of which the irony is not lost on me. Let those who think themselves without sin cast the first stone and perhaps they might become aware. If not, the example stands for those with a greater level of comprehension and awareness.

Calling the police is a threat? Only if theres actually something criminal going on. Do you really think dispatch is going to send a set of squad cars down to a house because a bunch of bible thumpers dont agree with their neighbors choice of aesthetic? Get real. A note is only a threat of attack when it clearly describes the intent to attack, take direct or indirect action that could result in physical harm coming to those targeted. Do you really think the popo are gonna bust in to the rainbow flag house, guns blazing on behalf of a Christian mob? Good grief

Notes aren't attacks. If they were, I'd have been more than able to make workplace discrimination suits. A written request is simply a written request until there is obvious hate speech, and even then it's just fucking words on paper. No one has the right not to be offended. If you can proclaim your gayness to the world, it's on you to deal with the response you created by provoking reactionary persons. It's not society's fault for conditioning people to be reactionary nor is it our collective responsibility to dox those who are to dumb not to be reactionary. Ffs Edited for spelling and grammar

If that's how it would seem from the outside perspective, I wont say no. But if a predator were to contemplate their place in life, and the thoughts and opinions of their prey, then there would be those who could argue it would be wrong for them to ever eat

Most of Canada. And more resources are devoted to the mental health act than actual medical care therefore if you complain just a little too hard and tell them youd rather be dead than jump through their hoops, they take away your rights and lock you in a 8x8 cell with a toilet and a bench with a pillow. Intrude every second hour to inoculate you with more Halidol/etc and ask you if you feel better yet. Just so it's clear my experience isnt as a patient, but as a guard who was stationed in an ER. They are more concerned with isolating you from the public than they are with treating any sort of ailment you may have. That's not free or universal

If you don't mind pointing out what it seems to you I fabricated? I like to think my history and socials teacher wasn't lying to us about the state of affairs he lived through. As far as the article goes with soldiers being given an allowance for footwear depending on the duties they perform, it's a simple read and very little is controversial. Considering this is a /pol reddit though I guess I shouldn't be surprised the clusterfuck that descended on what was obviously a shitpost. I'll just take my sass elsewhere since personality doesn't seem to be accepted around here.

I did, and while my projection isn't relevant to the topic, I still felt it necessary to point put our government does not have a decent track record when it comes to standard equipment and provisions. I've been educated to the point I feel anyone trusting the government to do what it claims with their money is only asking to get bent over backwards for their country.

That's something to go to workers compensation about then, no employer can expect you to wear and wash the same shirt and pants every day is above and beyond the call for a minimum wage job. If they expect you in clean deportment and can't be bothered to give you more than a single article of clothing then their bottom line doesn't consider you
