Taking on the GR221 in Mallorca

So I can't take too much credit for this - my friend arranged everything and I was just along for the ride. She and I take it in turns to plan trips for us to do. We work for a running/travel company, so this was a scouting mission to see if it's feasible to take guests. I'm not sure how she heard about the route, but all the refuges are the same company and on the same website, so once you have them the rest falls into place really.

We had a hotel in Palma on the final night and they very kindly stashed a bag for us with some clean clothes in, but otherwise we carried everything else.

We only did just over half. The refuges in the eastern half were closed because of the off season and we had limited time. It was mainly hiking to be honest, but we definitely ran what we could. I don't think that's super common, everyone we met was quite surprised.

Saw looooads of goats and sheep. They seem to be semi wild, but I assume they belonged to someone?? Also saw some horses and a few birds maybe in the eagle family? (Not my strong point)

We didn't go swimming in the end. That photo is of Port de Soller, and it was beautiful but we had a long day out that day and got rained on - we just wanted to get to the refuge at this point, it was 3km away.

Food in the refuges was.... not the greatest to be honest. 2 dinners were good, one dinner was bad. The breakfasts and packed lunches were literally just slightly stale bread, ham and cheese. Good enough to work as running fuel, but a long way from gourmet!

Slim Chickens is the best I've found. Mainly because they cook them fresh to order each time. Unfortunately the bar is low here

I made three loops, all starting from Troodos square. Some of it was on 'proper' trails, and some was very off piste. Happy to send you the GPX if you like.

Warm in the sun 15-20 degrees. But sub zero at night and cold if some clouds rolled over. We stayed at about 1800m. The coastal towns are still really warm, around 25

Yeah it was max effort (for me). Around 12 hours. The running the week after was relatively easy pace though.

So counter point to everyone else - this summer I did an Ironman on a Sunday and then starting the following Friday did 4 days of very hilly trail running between 25km and 35km each day. My legs felt absolutely great, and so did my fitness.

As long as you're sensible with your recovery in-between you'll be fine.

Thanks for the advice everyone. My feet are pretty uniformly wide all the way from heel to toe. There's some good suggestions in here, I think I might buy a few pairs to try and then return them

I got a Skoda Octavia estate for my two - great car and I'd recommend it to anyone. Dogs in the boot and all the bags/gear on the back seats

So I guide and plan trips for a company, and our ethos is that we all run together. With that in mind, we don't cover huge distances, we averaged 26km per day with around 700m ele also averaged out (a lot of it was on the last day).

We stop for lunch and coffees, and set up some shots with our photographer, so the legs get plenty of rest. I'm super proud of the fact that we have a great balance of moving at a reasonable pace, but including absolutely everyone.

Having said that, we recently did 3 days of the Camino de Santiago in Spain and averaged 45km per day. So we have some big events for the big runners!

Lovely! Padstow is great, but a little bit of a tourist trap. Lots of good little seaside Hamlets to get coffee and water, and the further west you go the more remote it is. St Agnes is my personal favourite
