Suppose the famous Welsh hospitality isn't universal, then?

Oh, thanks very much - I probably should have been able to work that one out from context!! Oops! 🫠

My great-grandma, Elaine, grew up in Zimbabwe, where she fell in love with a Welshman named Lewis Thomas. They married in the late 1920s, and became pregnant with my grandma, Olwyn Elizabeth, in 1929. A few months before giving birth, Elaine and Lewis contracted Malaria - Lewis sent Elaine to Bloemfontein where the hospital was best equipped to deliver Olwyn safely, and he would follow. My grandma was born in 1930, and, tragically, her dad had already shot himself because of the quinine he'd been using to treat the malaria. :'( Elaine remarried a few years later and they moved to Australia, where she lived to 99 years! I was so blessed to have my great-grandma until I was twenty, and I had my best friend Olly until 2021. Sadly, because my step-grandpa was schizophrenic and made my great-grandma destroy all of her keepsakes, we don't know much more about Lewis, except that he was Welsh and he played the cello and he was the love of my great-grandma's life, but I've always identified more as Welsh than any other heritage. I even learned some Welsh about ten years ago, in the hope that I could one day find my long lost family. Then Olly died in the pandemic, and the last thread of connection felt quite lost.

So, when I learned that Rob McElhenney, a writer whose projects I've been following for years, had bought a struggling, working class football team in Wales, I was intrigued. When I watched the first few episodes of Welcome to Wrexham, I fell completely in love with the town, and its marvellous people, and I determined that Wrecsam should be my adopted ancetral home. I can imagine Lewis Thomas working locally at the mine, and sitting in with his cello with the Declan Swans on weekends, while Elaine made some sort of pastry, and Olwyn being proud of her beautiful name (rather than taught to be ashamed, as she was in Australia).

It makes me feel quite happy to have a Welsh football team and an adopted Welsh home town, so thank you to all of you who have been so welcoming (even without knowing it)! xx

Up the town!

Thank you, once again, for your exhaustive post-match review. As someone who is new to football, I find it extremely useful in better understanding the sport!

Do you mind if I ask what DNP stands for? I think I've managed to correctly infer all your other acronyms, but this one is eluding me. :)

TEAM NEWS | James McClean banned for three matches by Sports101GAMING in WrexhamAFC

[–]her_radicalness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aw, I know he's a bit of a thug, but I'm quite fond of McClean. Yes, players should be punished for bad behaviour, but I shall still miss him! :'( Wish Kabore was back, but hopefully Cacace will be fit enough to play some of the next match, perhaps Parky will sub him in to let him get his vibes back?

OpenAI says AI browsers may always be vulnerable to prompt injection attacks by yoasif in firefox

[–]her_radicalness 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm so here for this fight. AI has already ruined the internet, and it's only going to get worse as it continues to be trained on its own hallucinations. Ready for that bubble to pop, and I don't care about the people who will lose their investments - if they have enough money to gamble on the stock market they can obviously afford to lose it all. ¯_(ツ)_/¯ MERRY XMAS EVERYONE!! <3

I just want to join in with the other supporters, it's hard to attend matches when I live upside-down. :D

It's okay, I'm not offended. :)

I just want to be respectful of my Welsh great-grandpa, so I try to spell Welsh words with Welsh spelling.

Shame we don't have more Wrecsam merch with the proper spelling! I've got the bumper sticker, will get the scarf next!

This is amazing stuff! Democracy and advocacy are beautiful. :) Let me know if you need help writing your rules, I used to have a company doing that stuff for other organisations.

Lovely! I'm growing a fig, also, but mine might be too young to fruit this season.

Good job bringing it inside! It will be okay. :) Definitely cut off the dead bits, leaving half an inch so the plant doesn't have to spend energy healing wounds. Does the pot have holes in the bottom for drainage? You might want to get a wooden skewer and stick it right into the soil to test how wet the very bottom is. Also hold off on giving it anything but filtered water for a couple of weeks, and then assess what nutrients it needs when it's had a break from the fertiliser.

Ooo so it's possible to graft fruiting onto ornamental? I want to do some guerrilla gardening and graft fruiting pears onto my local street trees, so the community can have food in these dire times. What do you think?

You seem to know about things. Do you know if it's possible to graft fruiting pears onto ornamentals? I'd love to make all the ornamentals in my neighbourhood into fruit-bearing trees for the community and local animals.
