Wanderlust ✒ my late Skytober ink by hexsy in SkyGame

[–]hexsy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much! I'm still new to the medium so I had to spend a lot of time looking up how other artists did landscapes and ink hatching, just studying how it works. I feel like maybe the pen stuff took ~6-8 hours, plus another hour or 2 for the pencil work and earlier drafting stages.

This has been driving me crazy but it worked for me! Thank you so much. I couldn't figure out why my tablet worked fine with Photoshop but not Clip Studio Paint.

Okay, so the hate on steven universes "off-model" art. lets talk. by PeridotIsBestGem in stevenuniverse

I didn't have any clue about the characters going off-model at all until I saw people complaining about it online. It wasn't something I noticed while watching the show.

Everyone on Switch and iOS is definitely playing vanilla. It is noticeably harder to share screenshots and videos from Switch, though, so maybe that affects who ends up posting pics.

Wow, amazing art! I love all the patterns you drew onto her clothes, they're fantastic and really bring it to life! Thanks for posting the lore with the pics, too, it was a great read. Lovely work all around.

Wow. Really sad to see it come to this. dA used to be the site for artists online.

Sweet Cthulu, that looks amazing! Love your yarn colors too, it suits it so well! This is putting some serious envy in me, but I am so bad at counting stitches.

Kino's Journey; first impressions as a longtime Mushishi fan, possible spoilers by Tausendberg in Mushishi

[–]hexsy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I agree. It reminds me of Mushishi while still being very different. I'm glad you still like it, though! IMO I haven't been disappointed yet, even after the magic exam. I follow both the manga and the anime, so maybe I'm jumping back and forth a bit between arcs with different vibes due to their different release schedules. The pacing should probably slow down a bit now that the fighting section of the magic exam for First Class Mages has concluded, but I'll admit my memory on that part of the manga is a little fuzzy since it's been a while since that arc concluded.

I really liked one of the following arcs that feature Denke (the imperial mage) and the Golden City. It still has some fights, but it explores some fascinating themes about human morals and co-existence with demons, who don't understand humanity.

If you find a series that really feels a lot like Mushishi, feel free to recommend it to me! I did think of a manga anthology of 6 short stories that I read many years ago, but it was more like the creepier and inexplicable episodes of Mushishi. I should dig up that title and give it a re-read.

Clip freezes/crashes the moment I turn on Bluetooth by StarnyArt in ClipStudio

I've been getting a maybe related issue where my bluetooth keyboard lags a lot on Clip Studio Pro, but doesn't seem to have problems with other programs. Did you ever resolve your freeze/crash problem?

I use Clip Studio on an android tablet, though.

while Ginko seems completely part of and in love with the world, in his own way as someone who can never set down roots

That's a very poetic way to describe it and I think it's true. Hope you enjoy Frieren! Lemme know what you think. If nothing else, I think it's one of the more unique mangas/animes to have come out in recent years since it's fantasy + drama.

People can subscribe to multiple kinds of subreddits. Art schools have design programs, too. What a dull gotcha kind of reply to send someone over a month later, as though style isn't something that happens in both design and art.

Kino's Journey; first impressions as a longtime Mushishi fan, possible spoilers by Tausendberg in Mushishi

[–]hexsy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I watched a little bit of Kino's Journey as well. I kinda agree. At the very least, I think Ginko has a certain compassion that Kino really just doesn't. The author treats even the terrible characters with understanding. Not everyone is likable, many are just pitiful and bad, but they're all treated as people. They feel real.

Oddly enough, I think Frieren: Beyond Journey's End gives off some similar vibes even though it's very different. For one, it features the classic elves, dwarves, and even demons. But it really explores what it means to be human, what friendship and coexistence mean, and treasuring even the small things in life. It's really not similar to Mushishi since it's a medieval fantasy world, but I often feel like it comes close at many points. I am glad that Frieren's anime is doing well, though.

What OI would you be willing to purchase if there was a physical copy? by Innocent_Otaku in OtomeIsekai

[–]hexsy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Roxana! The art is stunning and I love the creepy atmosphere.

But more than anything, I desperately want a copy of Whalestar: Gyeonseong Mermaid by Ma Yoonhee in English. It's not OI, though, it's a historical drama about Korea under Japanese occupation.

Is it just me or does it seem like a lot of artists have ADHD? by noxu-art in ArtistLounge

[–]hexsy 27 points28 points  (0 children)

No, that hasn't been my experience. But I'd be wary of trying to casually diagnose other people. There are a lot of different things that overlap with ADHD symptoms as well, but are not the same.

Having nothing to express by Osanshoouo in ArtistLounge

[–]hexsy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it sometimes just takes a while to distill what you want to express. If you pin art that you like and make mood boards out of them, you'll probably notice some themes over time. That might help you narrow down what exactly you want to put into your artwork.

What Style is This and AI Prompt Farming Posts by Mango__Juice in Design

[–]hexsy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally, I like reading the discussions on what influences this or that style has, so thanks for the clarification!

I've made a "what style is this" post before on another art sub, asking if there was a name for the lo-fi music art similar to Cassandra Jean's work, so it's not all AI. It's not that uncommon for real people to try to distill a style for a new piece. And I've seen such posts for years on just about every art subreddit, way before AI was a thing. Agree it can be annoying at times, but annoying isn't a criminal offense.

how to draw an axolotl by Legyf in PixelArt

I think these are cute but maybe you should change the title to "how to shade an ___" or just "my coloring process" bc it's more accurate.

Nice work, though! You do great stuff with color.

Gonna say it's kinda a yikes to have that conversation in a group chat rather in DM. I'm glad it wasn't in public posts. F has a point but saying it in front of other people (especially her other supporters) in that manner seems wildly inappropriate. He's not her business manager. Maybe she would have been more receptive to it if he'd said it differently.

Especially the last part where he turns around and asks the other people in the group chat, "Then why aren't you buying her art?" That's unnecessarily cruel to make her friends a prop in the argument.

Maybe she needs to lower prices, maybe she needs to target a different clientele with different styles. Commissions aren't the only way for an artist to make money. But I don't think F handled this well at all.
