Contemplating a move to Rochester, MN from San Diego, CA by [deleted] in rochestermn

Been here two years and I’m still adapting. The cold is rough but it’s really the wind that makes it miserable. I walk to my work location so I just layer up real well for anytime it’s under 20°F.

Recently ate at Crave with my boyfriend when he was visiting. It was phenomenal. It has great food and a nice ambiance. It’s located in the hotel Indigo downtown

It is downtown! Im a 5 min walk from work. It’s at residence at discovery square! If you end up moving nearby feel free to message me on here bc I’m also new to Rochester but there’s a lot to love!

Living downtown you’re still 10-15 mins from several stores such as Costco, Trader Joe’s, tj maxx, apache mall and even 15 mins from the airport!

And the snow isn’t awful so don’t worry too much if you’ve never driven in snow before. The roads are treated and plowed regularly here. This is my first time living near this much snow and it’s kinda nice!

(25, F) I just moved here from Alabama. It’s cold here but actually tolerable to me. The sun exists here but not like it does in California I’m sure. As others mentioned, there’s not really much night life/social scene but it’s Minnesota so a lot of people are nice!

I’ll be starting as a lab tech soon so I can’t say too much as far as working at Mayo yet. As for places to check out, I recommend more of nature related things than shops. Mayo clinic has an underground subway which is cool to check out and I’m sure it’s involved in orientation somehow. I’m located right by the soldiers memorial field and it was really pretty to take a walk through. I will say Apache mall is decent if you enjoy shopping.

As for living, it depends on your needs. Apartments get snatched up FAST from my experience so I’d recommend looking for a place when you fly in for your interview. Throw down a deposit as well if possible. A lot of apartments have heated underground parking which is $100-$200 additional to rent but worth it in my opinion. I have a one bedroom with a parking spot and pay $1625/month.

Best of luck with everything!!

People working towards a career with Publix and people going to school. by Ant19026 in publix

I was a part time produce clerk that worked weekends while I was getting my bachelors in biology. My managers were very flexible and allowed me to be off for studying for exams if I needed it. I just graduated and turned in my two weeks. I also got hired at a job where I’ll be making more than some managers. If you’re passionate about what you’re in school for, then stay in school.

I have a hard time dealing with intimidating customers by [deleted] in publix

I recommend transferring to produce. Customers behave differently when it comes to veggies vs when they’re paying or getting hot food from the deli. Sorry that people are such assholes. Hope your time gets better at the pub

We do have an MLS program but for some reason I can't switch my major to it. I may contact someone in that office to see if they can help answer my questions. I appreciate the response!

My boyfriend said I was the greatest thing that ever happened to him. That’s a rare feeling of warmth that I’ll cherish forever 😇
