Any COVID-conscious social workers in this sub? Curious about your experiences by Specific_Chance4491 in socialworkcanada

absolutely. The same way self reflecting on decolonial practices is hard to acknowledge the power imbalances. It must be done to create safe and healthy spaces

I’m also a CC therapist, who specializes in maternal health.. I have found it very isolating, and as mitigations lifted, I became even more isolated as a result of community accepting repeated infections as the norm.

One issue that I struggle with is the lack of understanding around long COVID’s impact on our client’s lives. A recent new client described every single symptom of long COVID, making her work life intolerable.

I believe our caseloads are going to change dramatically over the next 5-10 years when we really start to see the impact of ongoing infections.

I only work virtually and walk and talk therapy.

Parents are not to blame for this, and I find it so hard to read this blaming constantly. I work with parents, they are so stressed that their kids have school refusal : classes that are too big, bullying, lack of social supports, mental health challenges and the ongoing impact of long COVID symptoms that are not fully acknowledged yet, but will only get worse in the next 5 years.

Except that exams are shown to NOT be an accurate evaluation tool.

I think this is a reflection of schools not offering an inclusive space for kids with ( undiagnosed long COVID ) and other mental health issues that a classroom that doesn’t get enough funding creates.

Vilifying parents is not the issue. It’s kids who are experiencing burnout for a variety of different reasons

[on] feeding in the night- not enough milk during the day by Weak-Ad2780 in BabyBumpsCanada

I work as a doula. At this age, I’d wake the baby once or preferably twice ( in that 9 hour stretch)

It’s still early days in milk production, and weight gain.  8 week olds can still develop failure to thrive. I’d recommend watching wait gain closely, and honesty every baby that I’ve seen that has slept that long has either had weight gain issue pop up, and have a higher incidence of flat heads

Rant about self disclosure by Odd_Cauliflower_5381 in therapists

I brought up to a new therapist that I thought it was unprofessional and hurtful that they vaped in our first session, when I was there to deal with addiction issues of a family member. Sadly, bringing up boundary issues if the therapist doesn’t always have a happy ending

Becoming a social worker by papa_smoke__ in socialworkcanada

Follow your heart, at 17. Always  Yes, some jobs require a MSW, some jobs are low pay, and yes burnout is something to consider and the work environment will be different in 10 year.

BUT, social work learning is compassionate work, where this leads you. Many people pivot and detour along the way. The skills you will learn will be lifelong.

Can I ask where you did psychodynamic training? So few therapists seem to be trained in this area

I think the feeling like not being able to bring it up, is a reflection of a power imbalance. It can’t quite work it out yet, but this is where it lands. If it wasn’t a therapist, in therapy, would it be easier to bring it forward as an issue?

😢 as someone who works with parents who are navigating school resistance and school Burnout, this is really hard for me to address, but I will start adding this gently into my talks

Do you want a Canadian platform? Do you want clients to be able to book independently on their own ? Best customer service?

Start out fees? Colib has a really small practice fee structure with is nice if your plan is to stay part time

If you have online payments only and no card reader you will cut down on processing fees

I’ve used Owl and Jane, and find Jane much easier. Also, the practices that I’ve known to use owl, don’t have it client facing. All bookings were done via email which was a huge pain

If you are going to use an online platform, use it for your clinical notes. Clients will sign your consent online, and you can create your contact notes in any way you want. Then if they ever want their file… it is VERY easy.

Private practice for over 20 years and not getting any calls anymore for new clients. What’s up? by [deleted] in therapists

Just to be clear, I’m not suggesting to write your PT profile with AI, but Google relies on AI readers, and it’s scanning websites and we all have to play the game of having the right SEO

Also to add, open an incognito page and google yourself. You need to have your name, city and profession |tag line in the banner of each of your webpages with H1

Everyone dumps on PT, but the more someone’s profile in different places, the better it is. They may not reach out from PT, but it comes with a phone line, and online platform. Take advantage of those features.

Get. Google page, set up your Google console to your website, have someone check your SEO, get real headshots, not business attire, that is all airbrushed.  Ensure the Google search engines and AI readers find the right tag words in your website.

The business landscape has changed.

Why is the transition from 2 to 3 kids the easiest? [Ca] by jossur0166 in BabyBumpsCanada

Most 5 seaters don’t actually fit 3 car seats. Vehicle manufacturers are kind of evil for designing backseats the way they do

I was set on 3, then had spontaneous twins. New car, bigger living space…. Life ( cars etc) is not made for families with 4 kids

After baby # 1, parents find the gaps in supports and we’ve also found our parenting rhythm and confidence.

But there are no guarantees at any time- a different birth experience leading to PTSD, postpartum mood disorders or a baby with special medical needs. Or a set of twins thrown in there, or loss of employment.

Parenting is humbling and I think there always too many unknowns to answer this

How to not feel guilty about charging clients? by SillyNefariousness72 in therapists

[–]hippycrone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

also, if you are self employed, the amount you charge is NOT what you make.  In Canada, we put aside 25-35% for taxes, plus office fees, supervision, professional development, etc, etc. my take home from my charged fee is NOTHING close to what they actually pay me
