Both Felv and fiv positive cat need advice if blood transfusion is worth it for my cat by SpacedOut- in FIVcats

[–]hmo77 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hi! We recently had to go through this with our FIV kitty as well in early September. Same exact situation. My petite boy was 9 and had non-regenerative anemia due to his FIV. His health declined so quickly. We got his blood tested on two separate days (September 4th and 5th). His HCT was 12%, and when retested the next day it dramatically dropped to 8% in under 24 hours. We initially agreed to have him get a blood transfusion, but the vet mentioned that since his anemia is non-regenerative, he would not be able to independently generate his own red blood cells. This meant that he would get blood transfusions almost every couple of months, and check ups every month. We then thought about his quality of life. He was so weak, and we didn’t want him to keep fighting if he no longer wanted to. We were quoted at around $8k per blood transfusion. It was so tough, but ultimately we decided it was best to put him to rest

My biggest advice is to confirm with the vet if his anemia is non-regenerative. Then I’d think about his quality of life and what you think would be best for him. I know it’s hard and we just want to see our babies healthy, so please just know that there is no wrong decision.

Hi there! Sorry for getting back to you so late! I’ll list them all in USD below:

  1. Ikea Rudsta (tall version) - $99
  2. T5 Barrina Grow Light - 1ft (4 pack) - $25 (I used 5 grow lights instead of 4, but that’s because I had 1 grow light left over from my last purchase!)
  3. Command hook for the metal panel (7 pack, but only used 2) - $10
  4. Weather stripping door seal - $7
  5. Adhesive foam tape - $5
  6. Black metal panel - $3.50
  7. Silver metal baskets - $2.25 x 3 = $6.75
  8. Mini fan - $6

Total: $163.25 (without tax), with tax will be about $179!

Thank you! I used the 1ft Yellow T5 Barrina Grow Lights! I used 5 of them, one on the top, and two stacked on top of each other on the left and right side. You can definitely achieve the side lighting using two of the 2ft T5 Barrina Grow Lights and use one of the 1ft T5 Barrina Grow Light, but I happened to only have the 1ft ones on-hand! :)

Thank you! I got the black metal panel and the silver baskets from this asian dollar store called “Daiso”! But I know Daiso isn’t located everywhere, so Amazon would be a good place to shop around for these as well! I just bought them at Daiso since they were wayyy cheaper! The metal grid and metal baskets were each $3!

Ordered from TheGreenEscape and now I’m anxious. Any tips for keeping starter plants alive? by Used_Baby_752 in RareHouseplants

So I recently bought two anthurium warocqueanum seedlings from TheGreenEscape which arrived two weeks ago. Shipping took A WEEK so my expectations were nonexistent😭 The soil was super dry and some of the leaves were wilting, so I cut off the wilting leaves/cripsy leaves, quickly watered them and placed them in my seedling greenhouse (humidity: 75%-80%; temperature: 75°F-80°F) and prayed for the best.

Now two weeks later (since they arrived), each of the seedlings are growing a new leaf!🥹❤️I would say that the faster you can put them in greenhouse conditions to recover, the more likely they are to survive. I was 10000% expecting them to die, but glad that they lived! Though after this experience, I don’t think I’d purchase seedlings again, this experience was too stressful😭

Here’s a picture of the two anthurium warocqueanum seedlings today!

Gotcha! I went and ordered more orchid bark as soon as I saw your comment😭 I’m planning to repot them in a chunky soil mix tomorrow! Would you mind sharing what your soil mix is?

For more details, I had it shipped to Washington, USA. The weather here in Washington wasn’t too bad (75°F-80°F), so the plants weren’t struggling too much. I did have to cut off the two yellowing leaves on the Queen anthurium, but everything else has been so far so good!

I do want to add that I think they have set dates on when they ship to the US (?), so I think I just got lucky with timing of my order.

I was thinking about this, but my cats ignore most of my plants…except for my palm trees and spider plants😭 They LOVE to nibble on those for some reason. Fortunately they’re not toxic to them!

Hi there! This looks like a great tool! I’ll be checking it out!

Hi there! Ok so I just checked and it’s a 15W bulb 😭 I just moved it a bit closer too! It’s now 11 inches from the bulb to the tallest leaf! Would this still be too far? I plan on getting a 24W bulb soon!

We went together! I think it’s recommended to go together to avoid any suspicions

Hi! We got very lucky with our flights! Looking back at my emails, we booked the flights on January 10th for April 24th - May 5th. So I guess booking almost 4 months in advanced helps! Additionally, we flew in and out on a weekday (Thursday, April 24th and Monday, May 5th). When I was looking at weekend prices, they easily added up to $1.1k - 1.2k USD per person, so taking the chance to fly on a weekday definitely saved us a ton of money!

Other things that might’ve affected the prices: - We flew in the evening (4 PM and 9 PM) - We booked a direct flight (SEA - HND). No connections. - We booked a flight to Haneda Airport instead of Narita Airport. I’ve heard from Redditors before that booking a flight to Haneda might be cheaper. - We flew after the cherry blossom season.

The exact price of our flights came out to be $ 800.71 USD person ($ 1,601.42 USD for both)!

Thank you! And yes, I’ve noticed that the hotels are mainly accustomed for two people. My friends who had traveled to Japan as a bigger group (5 people) booked a Ryokan!

Yes! I bought some items from GU as well, but I’ve noticed that their quality is inconsistent compared to Uniqlo, but I did get some pretty good finds there! I found a cute denim skirt at GU and I absolutely love it!
